OOC: As usual, some OOC confusion. I took the invitation to the tent as for being for the swordmage only. It was not the intention to go behind anyone's back. There was apparantly some confusion, the Swordmage went and spoke to Gerric, then she feels satisfied to continue as described. That's it from my side.

OOC:
the (maybe) mounted units from Ilien will choose one of theese two options:

Plan A: Described in my previous post(breaking formation and exiting the road passing the collums and continue on the road towards the campsite).
or
Plan B: just halt if the Baronettess learns of the battleformation up front too late to do anything else... they seem to have been posted as the last units in the line anyway. They will then wait until they can no longer see the soldiers before continuing with plan A just thanking for the escort later.

should plan A be halted by IHH troops then yes there will be some kind of fallout! Bjørn are my units mounted(Free action 18 in my DO)? And will there be time to break formation before becoming part of the paranoia march of doom?

My shot at the IC chronology:

Forward scouts meet Elinien troops and they ride back together. Arriving at the column at Time 0.
Archbishop faces Kerric. Archbishop sets high alert down the column and sends messages to Tornilen and the Pontiff to meet and talk. Kerric sends a message to Tornilen. 5 minutes past Time 0.
Messages arrive at Tornilen and Pontiff. 10 minutes past 0.
Ilien hears that something has happened between IHH and Elinien units. They send a rider to see Elinie's units themselves. These find an Elinien sergeant who gives a version of events so far. 30 minutes past 0.
Meanwhile the meeting between the Pontiff, the Archbishop and Tornilen is in full swing. They get done around +45 minutes.
Marya moves to the Elinien command tent having been set up in the interrim, its not ready until maybe a full hour after first contact.
Iliens units decides they will not side with IHH in what is a wave of tension running down the column. They mount up and begin to extract onto the plains. This takes them a few hours, sure, but they begin doing it and then move away from the main column. Elinien scouts intercept them, hear their desire and are led off. - Unless actively intercepted. Time 1 to 4+ hours.
When SM returns to the column, Ilien is in full swing of moving out. IHH listens to SM, this takes another 20 some minutes to coordinate. Armsmen dismount, scouts are dispersed, then column begins moving again at 3+ hours.
The units behind Ilien might be annoyed if anything of theirs are still on the path in front of them, but thats all.

Further OOC comments should be in the mirror thread.

Acts of the weak. Why it is no man, woman or child let the foreign troops eat of their crop?
Why they burn and flee rather then give any knight corn or straw to lay?
These folk know of war!
It is their war!
Each man has his amour to field, so is the law, every man to stand if the call comes, not from the baron, they die each claiming to die a heroes death. From the Duke then, they live to old age. But can they show a champion? Blood will flow in wide streams! And We know this and will hardly try to change it! Wide and red they will flow!
Flow the noble blood will flow. Rivers wide, and rivers deep. For they know the time is done, the time is over. Pity is all we can give, pity.

Could we try to keep things somewhat tighter here? I'm all for florid description, but I think that this might be going a bit overboard...

Could you make some concrete statements as to your intent? I.e. the troops of domain XX are greatly offended and will not move until placated. Or domain YYs units will attack those of ZZ. Something like that.

Elinie's intent:

1. Get all visiting units escorted, with as little commotion possible, to the prepared campsites in the foothills the next province over.

2. Limit the visitors interaction with the locals as there is very little to be gained by worrying the civilians.

3. No units under arms enter Ansien City.

4. Visitors may scout their immediate surroundings, but performing "Patrol" warmove actions are stopped. First by friendly request, then by increasing measures.

Elinie's hospitality:

For a couple of warmoves, the Elinien units has had time to dig latrines and set up drained campsites for the visitors. There has also been set up local grocers who can arrange provisions for the visiting troops at reasonable pricing.

Of course your regent can bring a bodyguard with him/her into Ansien, all within reason.

If the rules are kept, then the officers are civil and offer no resistance to small requests that can make life easier for the visitors.

Moving on:

If there are no more mishaps, the visitors will eventually find themselves in the camp areas prepared in the foothills. The regents will have diverged into Ansien City to do council and will move to catch up to the armies before we all head into the hills.

Kerric's contingent will move with the regent caravan from Ansien to the foothills. Other cavalry units, within reason, (1-2 units pr. domain) can remain in Ansien to escort their regents to the foothills.

Having talked with the SM (who in turn talked with the Elinie General) Wallac takes personal charge of IHH's templars, send forth some scouts as had been the intend all the time not roaming more than a couple of miles in front of the collum. Then move by the designated routes to the camp prepared by Elinie.

"Now my lads no more sulking. We are proffesionals and we are here to do a job so lets do it and stop the bickering. Forward march, advance scout elements of 1.st and 2nd dragoon secure the perimeter and follow the designated route"

The Patriarch efforts to minimize interaction between the armies and between the armies and the locals are successful; there are no major incidents.

Having set up camp at the prepared site, restocked supplies and arranged guard duty Wallac escorted by his bodyguard setout to locate highest ranking Elinie officer in or near the camp.

If finding someone suiteable Wallac negotiate to ensure a smooth transition to being encamped. Wallac hints he would like to setup methods of communication and contingency plans in case of emergency etc. Pragmagtic and forthcomming - nothing like the Archbishop

Rashida bint Daouta is the highest ranking officer of Elinie in the camp. She is a General and commands all Elinien infantry participating in the campaign.

Raman Redhands, Lieutenant of Elinie, is in charge of logistics and coordinating deployment and orders.

Wallac receives clear information on how to send speedy dispatches and where the possible routes of retreat are located. - One to Mholien Castle, one to Sendouras Castle and one to Ansien Castle.

This information is given to all participants.  :)

One fine day in the camp, just past noon and the regular strategic meeting between the Elinien generals and Rashid, the various unit commanders are summoned for updates and debriefing.

There is nothing unusual in this. Except for the two runners who set off in the direction of Tornilen's and Osoerde's camps respectively, when a certain man among the unit officers has entered the command tent.

Inside the tent, unusual things take place.

As the officers file in, chatting among themselves and taking their places around the map table, few notice that more than usual of the Patriarch's bodyguard are on duty.

When Gerard, an officer in the dragoons, enters the tent, two men seize his arms, while a third who enters the room behind him, pulls away his knife and sword from his belt. A fourth inside the tent, places himself before the man, shielding the man from the rest of the room.

"Gerard, you have been accused of being under the magical influence of Manethander. For your own safety, and the safety of your peers, you will be held in captivity until the current campaign has been completed. By order of the Patriarch you are hereby placed under arrest until further notice."

Yet another man enters the tent, this one carrying shackles of iron for feet, neck and hands.

While the other unit officers were unaware of this plot, they are calmed by Kerric and Rashida, who assures them everything is under control.

When poor Gerard is safely in irons, the Patriarch himself is summoned. Rashid turns his gaze upon Gerard, trying to divine any taint or control that may be visible to his Paladin senses. Even if nothing shows, Gerard's fate is sealed.

"The procedure you have just witnessed, will be the fate of any man who is revealed to be infected by Manethander's influence. Gerard will be brought back to Ansien and all available remedies will be spent in an attempt to save his mind, body and soul from the clutches that may taint him."

"Remain vigilant and observe for changes in behavior or people suddenly conferring, who appears to have no reason to do so. Above all, keep in mind that this enemy can break even the strongest chains of loyalty. We can only protect ourselves by trusting our peers to save us, should we fall under this evil's sway."

"Gerard, are you aware that you are infected? - Do you have any words to add, before these men take you away?"

OOC: Bjørn, do you have any comment from Gerard you'd like to add?

MEANWHILE: The runners arrive at their destinations, and in both places a series of events occur. (Alex+Bobby, feel free to post what happens on your ends)

Is the following now correct?

Army Units:
1 Armsmen - Elinie - Rashida, General
2 Pikemen - Elinie - Rashida, General
2 Archers - Elinie - Rashida, General
3 Scouts - Elinie - Rashida, General
2 Dragoons - Elinie - Kerric, General
2 Outriders - Elinie - Kerric, General

2 Regulars - Mhoried
1 Archer - Mhoried
1 Outrider - Mhoried
1 Scout - Mhoried
2 Skirmishers - Mhoried

2 Units Crack Armsmen Mounted - IHH
2 Units Crack Dragoons Mounted - IHH

1 Armsmen - Tornilen
2 Regulars - Tornilen
2 Archers - Tornilen
2 Scouts - Tornilen
1 Surprise! Colossus - Tornilen

1 Knights - Roesone
1 Armsmen - Roesone

2 Knights (Crack) - Osoerde - Baron Bellamie, General
2 Armsmen, Mounted (Skilled) - Osoerde - Baron Bellamie, General

1 regulars - Ilien - Baronetess, Tilgentor
1 irregulars - Ilien - Baronetess, Tilgentor

---

From Ansien the army strikes out to the north, for the Grey Hills, looming ominously in the distance...wreathed in wind and clouds and rain...they are more like low and rugged mountains in these parts. Down in Ansien the weather is fair, but up there...the north winds unleash their fury up there, so expect conditions to be cold, wet, and miserable.

---

OOC: Let me see if I get this straight; the listed units move to Mholien. They intend to secure the entire province, so that's effectively using Trackless movement. If caution is to be exercised I would not rush the movement. Additionally the forces of Baron Blaede are on station and alert, as it the castle?

Just before the army truly arrives in the Grey hills, messengers arrive at the Patriarch's tent, from the Tornilen duchess.

They relay a concern and a simple solution: The Swordmage believes that the army needs a clear chain of command, as all the different parts of it needs to work together flawlessly. At least as flawlessly as is possible. Since the Swordmage already has command of the single, largest, part of the army - The field army from Ghieste, Roesone and Tornilen - she thinks she is best suited to head this temporary chain of command. She is also the only regent intending to stay and lead the army.

If the Patriarch of Elinie agrees to this and lets his generals obey her orders, she believes that the other commanders will do the same. She is well aware that this does not make the troops hers, they still belong to their respective realms and regents, but in an operation this size... someone needs to have the clear command.

If Elinie is on board, some strategic info will be fortcoming.
