Mentoring
« on: March 08, 2009, 04:19:20 PM »
don't know how much help I can be in this, but some players have expressed a need for some mentoring.  Send me an email.

I can help with the following:

Plots - How do I accomplish this? etc.
Qestions - What does this mean? Any best practices? etc.
History - What happened during this? (though my ability to do this is limited by what my own knowledge was at the time) etc.

For players that think they might benefit from some mentoring, Alan is an EXCELLENT mentor.

I know Jon and Bjorn are very willing to help as well, but since it takes up so much time to run RoE, having someone else to ask questions of benefits everyone concerned.

Thanks for offering Alan.  :)

lol.  I think it is because I was willing to point something rules related to the character.  If I know you are a n00b, I will try and remember that if I am dealing with you.

It is hard though.

PS.  Stay away from Even.  Even is dangerous. :)

Because you're not, Alan?  :P

The veterans here can provide a lot of very sound advice.  But always remember - how the player treats you and how the regent treats you are very separate things.  Watch what you reveal to anyone who interacts with you in-game.

And stay away from Even - he's dangerous.  ;D

Damn, Even is having some holdings in Alamie.

Alam would you mentor me, so as to offset Even. I would, then turn to Even to keep in balance Alan.

Smart, right?

I'd go further, and say don't trust any of the players.  :P
Alan is just jealous.

To get qualified help you have to show some kind of trust to someone. I believe any of the veterans can seperate OOC help from IC interactions. Including telling that the help is better found elsewhere due to potential conflict of interests.

In case a topic have potential conflict of interest simply ask some other veteran instead

Absolutely. The same applies to this game as for new emplyees, you simply cannot ask too many questions. Not asking questions is simply a sign that you're not grasping the situation and know your limitations.

One can always ask the DMs...but our time is limited. I'm also not took keen on offering OOC advice or explaining the rules in a meta fashion. Players don't have that limitation, so you might get bits of info that the DMs would not have shared with you.

Despite the length of time I've been a player, I've never actually engaged in significant military action (what can I say?  Tristan prefers talking).  This season I'm dealing with a goblin infestation and using it as an opportunity to get myself up to speed on how that works.  Anyone interested in working with me a bit to be sure I get it right?
