Trade Venture needs updating in regent guide.
« on: May 06, 2009, 10:37:27 PM »
This is trade venture as can be read in regent guide draft 2.15:
Quote from: Regent Guide draft 2.15

Trade Venture [Realm, Regent]
You send forth a great trade fleet or caravan to distant ports and far lands, hoping that they will bring you back riches.
Type: Realm – Trade venture requires the use of one court action and one regent action. Regent – Rogues (and guilders) can use trade venture as a regent action for purposes of their bonus regent action for class.
Cost: 1 or more GBs.
Difficulty: DDC 15 + the number of GBs spent.
You must designate a province of origin for the trade venture. You must also decide how many GBs you are investing. You may invest a maximum number of GBs equal to you trade holdings in the province of origin.
Modifiers: Stability; Special – Subtract the level of your trade holding; Special – Based on the action description, the DM may assign additional modifiers to reflect special dangers, hindrances or circumstances.
Example: Sending a merchant fleet from Aerele (Diemed) to Nowelton (Talinie) during winter may incur a penalty due to the harsh weather condition in the Sea of Storms. Sending a merchant fleet to Ariya for the tenth summer in a row, may very well give a bonus.
Influence: Yes – You can use influence on trade venture actions.
Restrictions: You may take 10, but you may not take 20 on trade venture actions.
Check: The venture has been a success.
You earn a number of GBs equal to one and a half times the number of GBs invested (if you invested 10 GBs, you earn 15 GBs).
If the check succeeds by 10 or more, you earn twice the amount invested.
If you get an extraordinary success you earn two and a half times the amount invested.
Failure: Failure means your investment is lost. A disastrous failure means that one level of trade is destroyed in the province of origin.
Special: When using this action from a coastal province, you can attach a number of ships to the action, representing a great trade fleet setting out. The ships in question must be active and have enough cargo capacity to hold the GBs invested. The ships are unavailable for the whole turn. On a disastrous failure the ships are lost. You may add 10 to the DAC when sending out a great fleet.

Specificly the part I have made bold doesnt seem to be in use. Instead we are playing with standard advantage trade. So I am looking for the correct description of the action. Or confirmation that the only change is what I have allready found.

Sigh; it appears that I have several variants of this action floating around in various drafts.

I'll have at that (too) once the turn has begun.

Bug me if I forget.

OoC:

Perhaps part of the Trade Venture action could be modified along the following lines (or along lines similar to those, which follow)? . . .

* * * * *
Difficulty: DDC 20 (+1 per non-trade-holding GB invested).

You must designate a province of origin, which you control or in which you control a non-source holding, for the Trade Venture. You must also decide how many GBs you are investing. You may invest a maximum number of GB equal to the average (rounding fractions up) of your trade holding levels and the total number of trade holding slots in the province of origin. However, each GB invested beyond the number of your trade holding levels increases the DDC by 1.

Example: Diirk Watershold controls a trade holding (5) in Calrie, a province with 7 trade holding slots. Therefore, at most, he could invest 6 ({5 + 7}/2) GB on a Trade Venture from that origin. Were he to invest 6 GB, the DDC would be 21; were he to invest 5 GB (or less), the DDC would be 20.

Example: Tasaenae Swordwraith controls no trade in Calrie, a province with 7 trade holding slots, but does control the province (as well as other non-source holding levels therein). Therefore, at most, she could invest 4 ({0 + 7}/2, rounded up) GB on a Trade Venture from that origin. The DDC of such an action would range from 21 to 24, depending on the number of GB invested.

Modifiers: Court; Stability; Advantage [Trade] – Use the advantage modifier in the province of origin; Special – Based on the action description, the DM may assign additional modifiers to reflect special dangers, hindrances, or circumstances.

Trade venture has received an overhaul that will hopefully make it an attractive side-action for when you've nothing really important to do :-P
