Actually this is rather interesting;

If you look at the world map with earth superimposed, you get a sense of the distances involved. And this is in a time-frame of late medieval/early renaissance...so there is considerable lag of communications AND distortion.

Something to chew on if you'd like for your to domain to act properly...
