My personal theory is that his head bloated beyond safety limits, and he got it stuck in Manethanders cave somewhere.

If we are real lucky, he'll come back a fullfledged vampire with a host of wights. I just love it when people feed my local vampire lord.

OR he ran into the servants of the Ogre and that lot. They presumably also run around in the hills.

OR the goblins got him.

Or he just decided to have a bit of fun / prove how totally inept the Marquis has been by stomping goblins / capturing or killing the awnie he'd heard about / etc.  I'm waiting for Tshalen to ask Osoerde to make the Patriarch's blood pressure spike by making Tshalen the new Marquis...
