I was browsing George's blog and fell across this little tidbit;
"A GAME OF THRONES: GENESIS plunges you into the heart of the battles and intrigues between the Families that shaped the Kingdom of Westeros," the press release from Cyanide and Focus promises. "However, victory does not necessarily result from brute force. The innovative game mechanics provide players with numerous paths to success: will you opt for a military, economic or diplomatic approach? Trickery, treachery and deceit are widespread and you will constantly have to watch your back if you want to avoid a bitter defeat! Peacefully or forcefully annex surrounding territories, besiege enemy castles, send spies to infiltrate behind enemy lines, assassinate trouble-making officers or capture them to ask for a ransom... When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground!"
Seems there'll be a pc-game set in Westeros in the future. Good or bad? No clue. But the art seems nice:

Cyanide is most recently known for the Blood Bowl-game, which I found quite entertaining, and kept to the concepts of the original board-game. I'll be looking at this game as it progresses, and will most likely want to try it, no matter how bad it may be.

there is a blood bowl PC game??! *goes searching the net...*
There is!

It's actually pretty decent. Although as with most board-games become pc-games it's not really the same when you play against an AI. I did convert a minotaur over their design though, even if the rest of the team never got further than on the rough conversion state.

I've got a friend who loved the Blood Bowl board game, and he's sold 100% on the PC game. He's had his army of dwarves killing entire teams while he laughs gleefully.

The pilot clip is out

If you have HBO you can watch the first 15 minutes.
-
You can now find the first 2 episodes drifting in the web-could...
-
I have seen the first episode! - Go me!
-
My first impression, after having seen the first episode, is hopeful. They have some cool actors in the various roles, and seem to portray the characters pretty well. Peter Dinklage does an awesome Tyrion.
The map in the intro was awesome, and did a good job of introducing the world without spending time from the actual series.
My only "problem" is that I kinda had the feeling that the story jumped about a bit too much between - and that you'd be lost if you didn't know the story in advance.
What do you think?
-
I do not know the story in advance and as the episode progressed it was possible to figure out who was who and related to each other in what ways.
I really look forward to more episodes. :-)

ep 1 and ep 2 show much promise for the series. I hope they keep the good pace

After reading the books AND recently listening to the series on audiobooks (during work commute time!), I'd have to say that overall I am pleased with the HBO series thus far. My wife (who has not read or listened to the books) is enjoying the series as well, though I felt the need to explain who was who to her (to the show's credit, often moments later, there was at least a clue if not a full blown explanation of the relationship of the different characters).
It seems like the show is progressing somewhat faster thru the story line than the books, though I can't put my finger on anything specific that I felt was important that was left out other than knowing the inner thoughts of the characters in the books (which is very difficult to convey via TV). The pace is probably better for today's viewing audiences anyway!
Another new episode tonight - we can't wait!
