It may feel like you have a steep learning curve, but most of the vets are willing to help out - although its a good idea to pick one geographically a fair way away as otherwise they can get conflicted in their advice - none of us would survive the intricacies of the Alan vs Alan intrigue war...

My advice, don't try to learn it all at once,; pull a chimp if you aren't sure of something and want the other person to be gentle; and do a variety of actions in your DO, that way when Jon ~~laughs maniacally and proclaims dooom!~~ provides calm, well thought out corrections, you are set up to repeat them correctly in future turns.
