The archers of the left flank also join in, and with fire arrows they inflict some damage on the trees. The same goes for the infantry; as pikes and armsmen surge forward the enemy advance is halted, even as scouts and skirmishers swam around the trees trying to set them on fire. In this they would not have been successful where it not for the knights - they rush forward sending all manner of wicked forest creatures running (or dying) - allowing the light infantry to do its job. Hermedhie and Gwen also join in, their magic might adding to the power of steel and fire.

Brandon, it might be a good idea to keep something running on Braedonnal.  I can just see an arrow zipping in during the confusion and spearing him through the eye.  Milos, if Dhon can rally those broken archers, we could really use the firepower back.  Hopefully I can shield them enough to keep them from dying completely.

You got a point. Rhuobhe is on a fast track to becoming the first "Rainbow Warrior".

I like that Siruos-fellows attitude though. You tell that cousin of yours, that if he survives this, we might have a position open for him in the slightly-fanatical branch of the religious business.  ;)

Heh.  If there was any chance fleeing would accomplish anything, I don't know what Sirous would do.  But trying to flee would just make things more sportingly entertaining for the elves.  They let us get nice and deep before they moved.

At this point, I think the only hope of anyone surviving is for us to kill or grievously wound Rhuobhe, possibly causing the treants and forest allies to stop fighting or to go out of control and causing massive morale issues amongst the elves.  In other words, we are dead, dead characters.  But we might as well try.  Pile on the Awnshegh, people!  Troops on the elven knights, heroes on Rhuobhe.  And buff/heal/ward Braedonnal with everything you've got available.

And my condolences to the ETN and Hermedhie, who sent their regent/heir into the fray.

I will be wrapping up this adventure tomorrow.

Input from Hermedhie is sorely missed; she is the only PC regent present, and has not yet made any posts.

Bob Marley provide just the right music for Hermedjie being in a tight spot "Iron, Lion, Zion"

I am on the rock and then I check a stock
I have to run like a fugitive to save the life I live
I'm gonna be Iron like a Lion in Zion (repeat)
Iron Lion Zion
I'm on the run but I ain't got no gun
See they want to be the star
So they fighting tribal war
And they saying Iron like a Lion in Zion
Iron like a Lion in Zion,
Iron Lion Zion

I'm on the rock, (running and you running)
I take a stock, (running like a fugitive)
I had to run like a fugitive just to save the life I live
I'm gonna be Iron like a Lion in Zion (repeat)
Iron Lion Zion, Iron Lion Zion, Iron Lion Zion
Iron like a Lion in Zion, Iron like a Lion in Zion
Iron like a Lion in Zion

I say he attempt to run if you get tired of waiting for his input - its a regent after all!

When Bobby sent that to me last night, I had to stand up and applaud.

I love the logic:

"I am going to die anyways, might as well piss him off on the way..."

Absolutely Great.

What, he's going to make it out of the deep trackless forest, along and unarmed, unhorsed, and having already been injured, without being hunted down by the hundreds of summoned predators or the knights of the Gheallie Sidhe?  Seems unlikely.  Might as well go out iwth middle finger upraised.

Good man! That's the spirit that broke the sidhe in the first place - only it took a few centuries and countless lives :-P

I love it.  Utter defiance to the very end.  It is the Anuriean mentality to a tee.

There was a great SR that had an excellent SR flavor text about it actually, something about Haelyn on Desimaar fighting, growing tired, but pressing on because basically all he had left was defiance and the ability to hope.

If you are in the sky, what exactly hides you from arrows?

I have a hope that the range increment will make it harder for them to hit me....
And yeah, trees and flames ;)

Though, Bjorn example of why a wizard flying over the battlefield, throwing spells with impunity doesn't happen is hilarious...

I'm fairly certain I remember something about movement spells being seriously nerfed in vanilla BR. No flying.

Am I mistaken?

Hmm, I think that we have seen proven - repeatedly - in RoE that showing glory frequently leads to showing your guts...

A lot depends on whether Rhoubhe decides to live any (a) survivor to spread the word of the totality of his victory, who knows, maybe he likes defiant last stands.

Personally I'm wondering what's defending his realm with him and his best knights absent, and whether Rhoubhe considers even 99% casualty ratio's to be a victory - those green elves are going to take centuries to replace, but humans breed like rats making killing them fairly pointless unless they are blooded...  Something made him risk his people and it must be fairly big.

So.  Did we just exchange Rhuobhe the Awnshegh for Braedonnal Tuare the Awnshegh?

That's always the problem with these little endeavors.  Birthright is a rather evilly clever setting, that way.

Hard to say what really happend. Bjorn is quite ambiguous here (as in most times). I can imagine several variants:

1) The "smoked too much" Trelien has an hallucination before his collapse and things happend quite diffrently.

2) The fight of Rhuobhe and Tuare really occured, but Trelien in all that smoke and his bad state have mistaken Rhuobhe for Tuare and other way around (after all both are elves and they are for human notoriously hard to recognize ono from another), so it was really Tuare, that fell.

3) Well, it really happened as Trelien saw. Having opportunity, one of Rhuobhe's own killed him from behind. Probably they just had enough of him and wanted something different. Then

  a) Tuare has "become" Rhuobhe and said "Don't worry, Im your old leader, even when I look different. Lets continue in ghaellie sidhe"

  b) Tuare has finally resolved his personal differences with Rhuobhe and since he allways hated humans as much as Rhuobhe, he has taken over his position after his death with words "Now you will follow me. Ghaellie sidhe will continue till humans are extinct."

  c) Differences between Rhuobhe and Tuare were political. Otherwise, they were close friends. After Rhuobhe's death, Tuare said to elves "Your leader is dead, this his sword will never strike again. Ghaellie sidhe is over. Find something better to do."

And yes, don't forget no human really knows that this has happened, unless Trelien makes it back from the forest (which I strongly doubt). For all we know, Tuare perished with the rest of the losing side and Rhuobhe is still there and still pissed off.

Since only the Wardens and Aerenwe have commanders remaining there, I guess they're the only ones who can take action until word gets back to the mainland of what's occured.  Bjorn, how long will that take?

Not quite.

The ETN has a substantial fleet in Caelcorwynn (as does Aerenwe). That's the important bit.

A ship could sail to Calrie in just a few days.
