War move 1:
Baron Enlien informs his men about his decision to leave for home. He hands command to one of his subordinates, along with the promise that someone more senior will arrive to replace him.
-
War move 2:
The army sits on its ass, waiting.
-
Near the end of the first month of summer the Baron of Roesone arrives in Brosien to take command of the army there; scarce two weeks have passed since Enlien left.
War Move 4 begins.
-
There are a number of other units in Brosien as well, men from Taeghas (incl. some milita), men from Avanil, and some from Medoere (they are going home). These units will not take part in the campaign to the north, having been used to take Brosien last turn (they are spent) and tasked with garrisoning Taeghas.

As most of the units have the "yet to arrive" status, the best thing to do now is some recon and in meantime prepare to move the army as the cavalry from Roesone arrives.
Do we have any report regarding the situation in Seamist? If no, I'd like to send the Ghieste scouts, backed by the Roesonian contingent in case of retreat.
-
You're missing Duke Diem and the 4 Roesone cav
---
On WM 4 the scouts, backed by 3 infantry, pass across the mountains and report:
There is a castle (2) which is Active. Garrisoned by 4 units of Infantry. All belong to Count Onslew of Devien.
The scouts, with movement remaining, recon ahead into Devien - they are repulsed by enemy Lancers, but report the presence of a low-level castle and an sizeable (10+ units) infantry army (comprised at least partially of militia).
The scouts are destroyed in the process (they were already damaged)

OOC : Now where to find another
preyscouts
IC :
Dieman and Ghieste contingent move to Seamist. Ghiestan mercs along with the engineers and arillerists will besiege the castle, while Roesone's and Dieman forces will block the road to Devien.
Baron sends a herold to the castle, demanding unconditional surrender.
-
WM 5:
The army moves forward. The castle is placed under siege (you need at least eight units, so you've got that covered). The castle declines to surrender.
The rest of the army assembles to block any advance by the enemy in Devien. The enemy scout out your position, but does not try to attack.
You might want to try to contact whatever forces are in NENTRIL (over the mountains in Avanil). They might not be aware that you're on the move.
----
WM 6 begins
-
Courier will be sent to the province of Nentril with the letter signed by Baron. If the local commander does have any informations regarding enemy presence/moves, he'll be highly welcome.
I do expect engineers and artillerists will construct siege engines and begin bombarding besieged castle. Baron will personally inspect the fortifications to find some flaw usable to quicken the siege - portion of wall destroyable by mining, weary parts of the wall etc ... result of the inspection will be discussed with the artillerists and engineers.
Dieman dragoons will perform periodical scan of the province borders to Devien, avoiding any encounter.
-
The Nentril force has nothing to report - it consists of some Ghiestan regulars and a group of soldiers from Endier. Their orders are to hold Nentril - apparently Prince Avan is assembling an army to go hunt the Boer army that slipped into Tuornen, and they are to guard his rear/flank.
The siege goes well. In another two weeks the castle will be sufficiently invested and bombarded to make the assault easy; although they would be fools not to surrender before then.
----
WM 7 begins.
-
What about the contingent from Roesone - is it already there (in Seamist or near)?
-
The will come from Brosien this WM.
-
Okay, so ...
baron writes a letter homedispatch to commander of the Iron Order units (swords, pikes, knights) in Caercas to join him quickly (force march)
...
bombardment and siege of the castle continues, aditionally, when the new units from Brosien arrive, baron will order them to show themselves marching around the castle (I assume the castle commander and his men do have partial insight into number and units position around the castle and banners they belong to, so they'll notice the reinforcements)
after parade, the new units will join the blocking force
...
meanwhile, baron writes a new letter to the castle's commander :
Sir,
you have my respect and respect of my men for the courage, trying to stop the force standing against you. You have delayed my progress furher into Taeghas and thus fullfilled your role and duty to your Lord. Now, your courage and bravery will soon turn from respectable to meaningless. Your further defense will mean nothing in this war, only will result into inevitable death of you and your men. Before the walls of your castle fall, I offer you another chance for honorable surrender.
Aruvor Raemel,
Black baron of Roesone
Knight of Stormlord
-
Force marching infantry has a speed of 3; going by Nentril it will take then 5 weeks, maybe 4, to reach Seamist. And one week to activate. And one week to receive the order (given the distance). So they will be there first thing next turn.
---
The garrison commander is willing to negotiate terms. If you allow him and him men to quit the castle, he will surrender it.
-
OOC:

to clear possible misunderstanding, I don't expect the Iron Order units to arrive sooner, with the new units I referred to I meant the contingent of cavalry arriving this turn
-
The commander is free to go to Devien, along with his men.
The scanning force (3 units of Dragoons) is ordered to recon deeper into Devien, avoiding any encounter and return back with report.
-
The cavalry arrives through Brosien as planned.
-
Not all Medoere troops left; only the templars (my bad). So these units are with the army:
MEDOERE
Regulars Seamist E Elite
Archers Brosien W Veteran
-
After the departure of the surrended units, two units of Lion regulars along with the Medoeran contingent will be appointment as a temporary garrison. Rest of the army will be prepared to march into Devien.
Now Baron waits for the scouting dragoons to return.

But you do send orders for them to move? If so, they will arrive around WM 1 next turn (in Seamist)
-
The commander is free to go to Devien, along with his men.
The scanning force (3 units of Dragoons) is ordered to recon deeper into Devien, avoiding any encounter and return back with report.
The negotiations take place in WM 7. In WM 8 the enemy units move to Devien (unharmed?), leaving you a castle (2).
The scouts report back. Baron Onslew commands the army in Devien. He has a castle (3 or 4) there, with some units inside (good quality infantry?). He also has 9-10 unit of militia (it looks well equipped, but of poor morale). There is at last 1 unit out light cavalry in there as well, possibly 2-3. And of course the 4 units of infantry that quit Seamist.
----
You have word from Nentril. The force there has started moving. And will arrive at the end of WM 8. Consisting of 3 Endier inf + 6 Ghieste cav/inf.
-
But you do send orders for them to move? If so, they will arrive around WM 1 next turn (in Seamist)
Sure, I only found later that I labeled two unit groups with the word "new" in that post and it might look I'm expecting the Iron Order riding FTL :)
-
So any activity from the rest of your army in WM 8? Other than watching the enemy vacate the castle?
-
The scouts did return in WM7 or 8?
-
The scouts did return in WM7 or 8?
7 - they need only one move to go back and forth.
-
OK, so there was enough info in WM 8 to make another move ...

checking the lastest ARR's DO, I don't know where the one Roesone regulars came from - I found no sign of mustering nor I've them among ARR's units in the DO ... am I missing something?
-
OOC: Well, they are there. The DOs are a mess anyway.
-
WM 8:
The mounted component moves to Devien. There is little new to report; the enemy has called out the militia and has 3 or so units of light cavalry, but they are not interested in initiating battle or skirmishing.
The foot stay in Seamist and oversee the castle/retreat
Ghieste/Endier contingent arrives in Seamist
----
WM 9 begins
-
Does the Ghieste/Endier contingent have a commander? Tael Brosuine demands to speak with the commanding officer, asking for his orders.
General Brosuine was ordered by Baron to leave a few units for garrison duty in Seamist and with the rest depart to Devien. Will the Ghieste/Endier contingent obey?
-
General Artheuer Welling of the KoH. A seasoned commander. They are here to join you.
-
These units will stay in Seamist as a garrison :
MEDOERE
Regulars Seamist E Elite
Archers Seamist W Veteran
White Lions
Lion Regular 3rd Seamist W Veteran The Army of the White Lion
Lion Regular 5th Seamist W Veteran The Army of the White Lion
their order : man castle defenses, report incoming threat to main army
Rest of the units in Seamist will split into two groups :
Mounted units from the Ghieste/Endier contingent under command of General Artheuer Welling will immediately move into Devien.
Remaining units under command of General Tael Brosuine will follow, as the probability of enemy encounter is high, swordsmen and pikes will go first, archers and crossbows behind them.
In Devien, Baron will try to get into contact with the enemy militia :
Dragoons and outriders will quickly engange enemy units (preferred target is militia) at missile range, deal damage and disengange (they have the advantage of higher speed). In case some units will try to chase, knights under personal command of Baron will take care of such fool.
This tactic will change after arrival of the Ghieste/Endier contingent.
-
WM 9:
The enemy infantry heads south, along rugged terrain, not wanting to give your cavalry any advantages (they are heading for Bhaine). You own infantry won't catch up with them, but the cavalry can - barely. Do you engage - to defeat or merely to harass?
The enemy castle in Devien is active and stocked with infantry units.
You realize that the enemy has spies watching and reporting on your movements (no surprise there really).

Baron, observing the new situation from a small hill, uttered to his oficers waiting around. Not surprising. Only fools will accept fight with superior force. Then yelled. Change of plans, knights, prepare to strike. Horse, where's my horse?
Knights and mounted armsmen under personal command of baron will strike at the 'retreating' enemy, dragoons and outriders at both flanks - using missile.

OOC : I do expect the Ghoere/Endier contingent is still moving into Devien, thus unusable, right?
Indeed, that was the enemy's plan - to observe your movements with spies and then slip away (during the night). You can of course order some/all of those units to abort their move and go to Bhaine instead, but they will be delayed.
-
The enemy commander, this Count Onslew, is quite unwilling to face you in battle. He knows the terrain very well, and continue to slip south and west. You lighter cavalry does manage to keep up with his forces and harass them, but they have to be careful, because several times there are ambushes staged. He is clearly trying to lure your to go after him - but why does he do that? Soon you'll have him cornered in Seasdeep.
-
Baron will not pursue, sending scouts (3 units of DIEM dragoons) to Portage, to check for enemy presence and return with report.
He also sends fast herold to Aerthur Welling to halt in Seamist and scout carefully in Bhaine (using light cavalry).
-
You' chase the enemy to Bhaine and halt, then send your light cavalry to Portage.
They run into another well-garrisoned castle, as well as a smallish infantry army camped nearby. No cavalry at all.
Your sub-commanders suggest that you take Bhaine, effectively trapping this Count Onslew and his men there.

Seamist :
Garrison units along with the Ghieste/Endier contingent under command of Aerthur Welling.
Devien :

Enemy castle with unspecified garrison
Bhaine :
Diem/Roesone calvalry + Baron
Enemy castle, 10+ enemy units
Portage :
Enemy castle + some units
is that correct?

Corrections;
You have that castle (2) in Seamist under your control.
Bhaine has no castle.
-
Ghieste/Endeir cavalry contingent (Aerthur Welling) will move to Devien to guard 'back' doors to Seamist and Bhaine. They will not try to deal with the castle, but will try to block enemy moves to Seamist and Bhaine. They'll provide intel for baron too.
Tael Brosien with the infantry units (Roesone/Ghieste/Endier) will reinforce Baron's units in Devien.
Meanwhile, Baron asks for detailed info about the enemy strength and position (Roesone outriders and dragoons will do that job, carefully planning movement to keep their speed advantage).

WM 10 is spent redeploying and scouting some more.
You gain little additional intelligence:
- Onslew is now with his force in Seasdeep. You now effectively control Bhaine.
- There is no real enemy presence in Bayside.
- Portage contains a castle and an enemy infantry army of 'intermediate' side (meaning 15+ units).
- You've no intelligence on the northern forest provinces.
- Foraging is poor; the enemy has taken most of it and destroyed what he could not take.
- The locals have little love for the men of Boeruine.
WM 11 begins.

The Baron would know this:
Seasdeep is renowned as being very defensible (i.e. a good castle - lvl 6 or so). A lengthy siege will be required to take it. Devien should fall more quickly. Next season hopefully.
-
Oops ... :)
Change of plans then ...
Tael Brosuine will take charge of the Lion contingent to guard back doors to Devien and will stay in Bhaine (Occupy). Rest units will return under command of Baron to Devien and begin siege.
-
OOC: That sounds more logical...we don't want the baron stuck down in the corner...
Bhaine is well guarded and Devien is put under siege. The enemy cavalry is too weak to even stage raids on you, so it's quite peaceful...
WM 12 (last this turn) begins:
-
Baron sends a few dispatches :
- forces in Bhaine and Seamist are ordered to prepare and strengthen their defensive positions, Tael Brosuine in Bhaine is expected to gather intel about movements on Seasdeep/Bhaine border (avoiding encounters) - just to be warned about possible surprise attacks, as he has no units suitable for scouting deep into enemy territory
- additionally, Aruvor spends some effort (and GB/RP if needed too) to improve logistics and supplements of all the three contingents (Bhaine, Seamist, Devien).
- general Artheuer Welling is asked for intel in loure (using Endier scouts)
Artillerists and engineers in Devien are ordered to build siege engines and begin bombardment of the castle fortifications - if it wasn't done yet.
At last, Baron writes letter to his senior officers, pointing out that any evidence of plunder/robbery against locals should not be tolerated.
-
Everything proceeds as planned.
The scouts report no enemy presence in Loure.
The turn ends.
