#68 Court Session in Ashien
« on: September 14, 2010, 12:56:37 PM »
The Princess has decided to move her court temporarily to Ashien, while the unforgiving and stubborn job of erecting a new city in the ruins of Daulton slowly begins.
It is here that she has invited several dignitaries, both foreign and internal, to a court session in the start of winter, to address them and cater for them, and ensure them of Avanil's bright and shining future, now when everything looks so bleak.

While Avanil is still very much in morning over the death of the Prince, that is not so in Tuornen - perhaps one of the reasons that Aubrae has decided to hold her session in the court of Ashien, rather than in some of the other Avanese province - as a means to provide a facade of pride and life for the foreigners who are to visit, rather than a black-clad court of mourners and defeatist noblemen.

Here she is surrounded by strong-willed men of Taeghas, who has seen the enemy of their lands, who has fought and won alongside allies and friends. Here people traveling from the north, west and south must pass through areas that are still littered with the refuse of battles - all a testament of the blood shed by the defenders in an attempt to reclaim what is rightfully theirs from the hands of Boeruinean invaders.
People might murmur at the Princess decision to shift her court, even temporary, from Avanil to Taeghas, but in light of these routes, littered with broken arms and armor of the scattered enemy, and with the fierce devotion the people of Ashien feel towards their new Princess, it is evident that Aubrae wants to present the image of a strong-willed defender of her people, rather than a cowed heiress hiding in the shadows of her fathers ashen tomb.

Many are those, that have been invited to the court of Ashien. Nobility, temples and guilders alike.  It is said, that the Princess even invited dignitaries from Boeruine to talk, presumably of peace or ceasefire. People from near and far have been braving the cold to arrive in the stormy court of the Princess, there to engage in both social events, feasts and diplomatic affairs.

Princess of Avanil, Duchess of Taeghas

You can assume that all the named nobles of Taeghas (south) and Avanil (and more) are there, if not in person then at the very least by proxy (I'll make separate mention of it if a regent is missing).

There is also a delegation from Brosengae - and more surprisingly, from Tenourie.

The train that arrives with the Duke of Ghieste is understated compared to that which his position and wealth might suggest. Instead of mighty laquered carriages and ornate silver work his Grace and large, well-armed, retinue all ride in on matching steeds and in similar soft grey cloaks, making it difficult to place him in the mileu. It is only when the hoods are dropped as they approach the gatehouse that the ducal coronet becomes clear as well as the formal posture that he has adopted. A herald steps foward to announce him and he in turn rides forward to raise his hand in greeting.

Ruormad Coumain, the new Patriach of the Celestial Jewel of Sarimie is noted to have arrived in Ashien as well.

A young man (in comparison to other Patriachs) he moves with a barely repressed energy and cuts quite the dashing figure in his resplendant robes of green and gold.

Travelling behind his party are a number of wagons stacked high with sacks. Rumor from the wagoneers once their tongues are sufficiently lubricated is that the Patriach has bought a gift of dried foodstuffs and building materials for the people of Avanil and Taeghas to aid in their rebuilding.

One cold evening, a suite of well-armed men arrived at the gates of the city Ashien. Their banners were unknown to commoners here in the distant country, but the well-informed ones knew what the strangers are from and who the men from Spider River Traders represent ...

The representative of the Archduchy of Osoerde is a most curious woman.

She is beautiful, but in a wholly athletic way, which makes her seem exotic.  Her skin has been browned by the sun, and it is clear that her hands bear calluses.  She is lithe and graceful, sturdy, unassuming and confident. While clearly a Anuirean Lady, in many respects, she is very exotic and yet, as Anuirean, familiar all the same.

Her name is Countess, Kaeranne Vanadaere, and the regalia of Lady and a knight of Osoerde.

She bears two sealed letters for the Princess, which she hands to Aubrae’s courtiers as she bows.

Followed by some Alamien men-at-arms, Viscoun Traedric Alam, the younger brother of Duke Carilon Alam, arrives in Ashien.

He bears the credentials as ambassador in Avanil.

Lauriel Anviraele, Emissary of Tuornen, arrives as the session is well under way. Formal notes of arrival are sent both Her Grace Aubrae and His Holiness Kharnmoin.

Lauriel Anviraele, Emissary of Tuornen, arrives as the session is well under way. Formal notes of arrival are sent both Her Grace Aubrae and His Holiness Kharnmoin.

Lauriel Anviraele, a young half-Sidhe woman, Emissary of Tuornen in the City of Anuire.

Her background is no secret; Lauriel is a part-Sidhe daughter of a noble family from Pechalinn. She is also the last know survivor of the Anviraele as their estate was overrun by Rhuobhe.

Lady Lauriel Anviraele has no lands, her families estate destroyed and now divided among other families. Still Lauriel has enjoyed all the privileges of the court and there been educated and trained. The lady actively serves as an emissary for the Duchess of Tuornen Laela Flaertes in the City of Anuire and courts of neighbouring lands.
