Introduction of Urga-Zai
« on: January 19, 2011, 01:03:06 PM »
East of the darkly famous sidhe kingdom of Lluabraight, where the land turns rugged and mountainous and the forests dark and twisted, lies the goblin kingdom of Urga-Zai. These are not the ‘civilized’ goblins of southern lands, nor are they like the goblins of fabled Kal Kalathor; these goblins are of the fierce and feral kind. They live short and violent lives under dark green needles, longing only for the taste of their enemies’ blood of their fangs. There is a ‘king’ in Urga-Zai, but he is dependent on the support of a number of semi-independent vassals. Without their support he can do nothing.

The traditional enemies of Urga-Zai are the elves of Lluabraight, the dwarves of Khurin-Azhur and the men of Danigau. Each realm has inflicted endless losses upon the goblins, but it seems every new generation sees a new goblin leader that believes that he will be victorious where the others have failed. Other neighbors are also troubled with goblins raiders – by skirting the elven forests the goblins can reach the Giantdowns and beyond. Kvigmar is also raided from time to time, but the presence of Danigau helps protect the little Rjurik realm. The same cannot be said for the fledgling kingdom of Hjolvar – it is only because of the relative weakness of Urga-Zai that the realm has endured. If a strong goblin king should arise he will surely sweep the humans of Hjolvar into the sea.

King Dargal: Male Bugbear; Very high level Barbarian; Vorynn, minor, 24; CE. Dargal is the largest and fiercest warrior in all Urga-Zai. That makes him King – both because of his prowess and because the other goblin lords want him as their leader. Dargal is tactially adept, but cannot be trusted with an army of more than a few thousand. Strategy – and gods forbid politics – is way beyond him. He dreams though, he dreams great dreams, but it’s highly unlikely any of them will become reality – perhaps ave the dream of destroying Hjolvar.

Warlord Gladdishk: Male Hobgoblin; High level Barbarian; Reynir, weak, 11; N. Warlord Gladdishk comes from a long and proud line of goblin warlords – a line that started with a goblin warrior slaying a sidhe scion near two hundred years ago. The current warloard is old and wise and would much prefer to be left alone than to go to war with humans or sidhe. Gladdishk’s people populate the northern coastline and mountains – easily the harshest place in the entire realm. These goblins are hardy and insular. They are also as merciless, but not necessarily as cruel as their more blood-thirsty cousins.

Warlord Mfullik: Male Goblin; High level Rogue; Azrai, minor, 25; NE. Warlord Mfullik is a vicious and cruel goblin. He cares little of politics, but enjoys playing with his enemies – or his own subjects if no enemies can be found. He’s also found a taste for scion flesh and blood – he’s caught three scions of some power, two Brechts and dwarf. Feeding on them has added to his own power, but has also twisted his bloodline into that of Azrai. Mfullik’s people are a scrawny and misshapen lot, cursed with the least bountiful land of Urga-Zai. Only Kazal-Zai is anything remotely close to hospitable – and that province is cursed with being the usual route for foreign invasions and punishment expeditions.

Warlord Zhourgg: Male Bugbear; Medium level Barbarian; Anduiras, minor, 17; LE. Warlord Zhourgg is a young and energetic goblin, blessed with equal measures of prowess, viciousness, and intelligence. He has also inherited a bloodline of Andurias, complete with the battlewise ability. In time he might grow to become a true leader in a way that King Dargal can never match. But first he must survive more battles, gain more followers, and try to turn his dark forest domain into something more than it is today. Zhourgg’s people include all kinds of goblins. What units is their fear and hatred for all things sihde.

Warlord Nybwyl: Male Bugbear; Medium level Barbarian; Reynir, weak, 8; CN. Nybwyl is the weakest of the goblin lords of Urga-Zai. Mostly on account of the poor location of his domain – precariously positioned in the southern hinterlands it really doesn’t have much to offer. Nybwyl’s domain includes many strong tribes of bugbears, and province Zaruul is home to some rather fierce ogre clans. He is probably also the fiercest and most hot-blooded goblin warrior of his generation; he gladly leads his warriors into battle, caring little about who he kills as long as he gets to fight.

Baskuul, First Sword of the Swords of Kartathok: Male Bugbear; Medium level Druid; Vorynn, weak, 12; NE. Baskuul is first cousin to King Dargal. That is more or less the only reason his First Sword. Obese and dim-witted Baskuul cares more about feeding and fornicating than he does furthering the cause of his god.

Yzz, the Sorceror: Male Fhoimorien; Medium level Sorcerer; Azrai, major, 49; CN. Yzz is the legendary Sorceror of Urga-Zai. Truth be told he’s not really a goblin at all, but a particularly hideously twisted Fhoimorien. Yzz rarely responds to requests for aid – but he will protect ‘his’ lands from intrusion; which often means he’ll subtly aid Urga-Zai against any invaders.

Tyddral, Mistress of the Hoarfrost: Female Sidhe; Very high level Sorcerer; Azrai, major, 36; CE. Most goblins have heard of the terrible power of Llaeddra, Grand Mistress of Lluabraight. But most goblins will never have to face her power. Her handmaiden Tyddral, Mistress of the Hoarfrost, is another matter entirely. She battles Yzz for control of the western forest sources – and whenever she gains the upper hand terrible things happen. Entire villages die in their sleep, babes freeze to death in their mothers’ wombs, terrible monsters comes stalking in the cold starlight.

Erik Danig, Markgraf of Danigau: Male Brecht; Legendary Noble/Wizard; Brenna, great, 64; LN. Erik, the legendary wizard sovereign of Danigau keeps tight control over Urga-Zai’s eastern sources, both to shield his realm and as sword to be wielded against Urga-Zai as needed. Erik’s apprentices and journeymen sometime come into conflict with the goblins, but for the most part they manage to keep a low profile.

Vaar Gestad, Loremaster of Khurin-Azur: Male Dwarf; High level Druid; Brenna, major, 32; CN. Vaar represents the Loremasters of Khurin-Azhur. As such it is his duty to see to it that Khurin-Azur has sufficient control over the magic of the land to receive warning of enemy attack – and to help smite the enemies of the kingdom in times of war. It goes without saying that Urga-Zai is one realm Vaar has an interest in. It is probable that Vaar has a number of goblins in his employ, including some goblin sorcerers that thrive on his patronage.
