I've just brought the game. Description says it is Big Box PC game and new. Platform DOS & Windows 95.
Anyone tried the game?

I had a version once, that might be the same. But it was very, very old, and impossible to get to work under Vista.
The graphics were also screwy.

Damn, that is one old boy of a game.
It's actually not bad, I played it a lot back in the day. Completely outdated obviously... But I'd definitely check www.birthright.net for a couple of nice updates. Should be in the files section.

Warning for those that have Vista...
It might not work. Even in compatibility mode (Win95) I have problems. I even tried DosBox, but it didn't help. Th last OS I could play BR the Gorgon's Alliance, was WinXP.

It was enormous fun, but as others have said, sadly no longer. Vista kills so many old games *sniff*

I like it - and still have a couple of versions kicking around. I couldn't get all the br.net upgrades to work though - and haven't even tried it on vista.
That said I'd love an edit to correct the skeleton stats and auto-spawn bug.
Someday if I get rich (sadly unlikely) I'd like to get a version that could be used to run a PBEM - the overall interface at domain level was nice and the multiplayer version I heard of presumably allowed opposing RP bids... Add in a DM nudge option to reward RP and I'm there...

You can get these old games to run I'm certain, just google dosbox.
It's an emulator for everything DOS and Win95.
I've only tried to get it to work on XP, never Vista, but it is possible, just check the faq and the wikipedia page.
All the old games should be playable using an emulator like this.

There is already a nice "graphic" interface for BR pbems, called BirMail. It works on java. Sadly it is based on 2nd edition rules, but it provides really nice html pages for use in the game. If someone would change it into 3rd edition, that would be a huge deal for most prospective DMs :)
@Jon: I tried to use DosBox in Vista and it does not run... Hopefully it runs for others. If someone manages to run the game in Vista and shared his method, I would be extremely grateful. ;D

The PC I am going to play the game on runs XP so it likely wont be me finding out how to make it run on vista

I'm familiar with birmail, a friend, Larry Saw, is making a computer game called Acadamagica, if it does really well he said he'd look into updating birmail...

I've played around with the game and had my fun. The strategic map and game play is fun and I have enjoyed that part quite a bit; the adventures I rather avoid as they crash the game every third time or so and besides repeat themself when you play the game a new.
The game has been a good way to familize myself with areas of Anuire I else have not been payng any kind of attention to besides help me pass time while Bjørns back gets better :)
