If you'd like to play some classic DnD games on your Win 7 64-bit, then maybe you want to check out the DnD sale over at GoG.com:

I bought the classics...but I'm not going to start playing. I promise!

If you, like me, sort of liked the atmosphere of IWD, but found all the combat repetitive and eventually boring - to you I'd recommend the IWD NPC mod:

http://www.pocketplane.net/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=174&Itemid=122

With this mod you only make 1 PC; the rest are premade. Add them to your party...and voila...you have a party of companions with background, dialogue, interjections, banter...almost like BG.

IWD2 has a similar mod:

But I've never tried it. I found IWD2 less compelling than the first game and never got around to completing it, let alone trying it again with a mod.

For Planescape I would add:

http://www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/pst-ub

Adds some extra content.

While I still think that PS:T is one of my all-time favourite games it still annoys me that it didn't have better combat mechanics. I mean, I'm glad it wasn't combat heavy, I just wish that what combat there is be meaningful, challenging and interesting.

General sites for classic DnD games mods:

http://www.spellholdstudios.net/
http://www.gibberlings3.net/
http://modlist.pocketplane.net/

http://sorcerers.net/ (more focused on newer games I think; the above 3 sites are more active when it comes to the older games)

If you're actually into modding IE games you should do it using WEIDU:

http://weidu.org/
http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/board,44.0.html (active forum supporting WEIDU)

I actually taught myself how to use it a few years back. Made a small mod for the starting town in IWD. Some additional quest, including a townsperson who turned out to be a werewolf. I was pretty pleased with myself after figuring out how to make the game transform a human character into a werewolf. Completely pointless, but still fun!
