Every PBEM has this thread so I figured, why not..

Could we, perhaps have a slightly larger pixel allowance for the avatars if it isn't too hard on the forum? I can barely make out my character :)
: Re: Avatar Testing
: DM B September 23, 2008, 09:12:08 PM
Granted; 120x120 is sufficient, or should it be even greater?

(mine is 80x80)
: Re: Avatar Testing
: X-Roesone/ARR (Robert) September 23, 2008, 09:29:08 PM
I think its ok now. Can't see the eyes of the guy, but I guess it makes him a bit more intimidating :D
: Re: Avatar Testing
: DM B September 23, 2008, 09:33:26 PM
I can up it more if you think it's needed; no bandwidth issues.
: Re: Avatar Testing

In that case... maybe a bit ;)
: Re: Avatar Testing

I can do 160x160...anything above that and the little green knight will feel inferior  ::)

Finally! I realise who my avatar reminds me of now! Derek Jacobi! I've been agonising over this for days!

Nah, my old image was this one, so i thought i'd opt for something a bit "older"

LOL, and all these years I thought Siele Ghoried was a woman. I guess the name can be decieving  ;D
: Re: Avatar Testing
: DM B September 24, 2008, 01:28:03 PM
Actually, I think she's described as both a man AND a woman in various books. In RoE she was a woman, but I see no problem changing that...not like she married anyone!

: Re: Avatar Testing

Hm. I simply looked Siele Ghoried up in Ruins of Empire (the publication) and it says MA; T4; Ma, minor, 21; LG. Also referred to as a guildmaster. Where does it say otherwise?

I think the PS Roesone had her tagged as female, but I'll have to go downstairs to check and I'm too lazy right now...

Know what, SG never had an important role anyway, so we can replace her with a brother or some such if that is preferable.

No, its a handheld tape recorder.  For taking notes, so he won't forget any of the amazing things he's said to himself.

Notice -- I think the (little) Green Knight is going to suffer a little size envy.
: Re: Avatar Testing
: X-Medoere & RCS/KE (Thorsten) September 25, 2008, 08:56:28 AM
Well at least my characters avatar isn't from the Amoka-artist  :D Seems we might as well hold a George R.R. Martin get-to-gether soon.

And no, it's not a tape-recorder or a cellphone, it's a small edition of the Book of Haelyn. So that i might divine His purpose with me.

Edit: Seriously though, if it's bothering people, i'll switch back to the old one.

Considering the last avatar of him, was Lord Soth from Dragonlance... i think you'll be good.
: Re: Avatar Testing
: X-Tornilen/SM (John) September 27, 2008, 07:29:32 AM
It has to be borne in mind that the Sword Mage is officially female now though, which is why I cropped this picture to basically show just the helmet.

And she won't actually be wearing heavy suits of armour, so that's a bit misleading as well. ;)

But it does capture something of the Sword Mage's nature that should give others pause before dealing with, or crossing, her.
: Re: Avatar Testing
: X-Mhoired (Dan) September 27, 2008, 07:42:58 AM
Is there a particular site you folks are going to for your avatars? I've found a couple I like quite a bit, but I am a touch paranoid about downloading from a completely random site (viruses=  >:( )
: Re: Avatar Testing

Black was always the favoured colour of the rich and famous in medieval europe, partly because of its cost and exclusivity therefore. Always was a good business to be in  ;)

No, but he got a whole lot of grief from her...with her trying to 'help' her prodigal son achieve his manifest destiny and all...shows that adventurers don't like their mom's trying to help them defeat the forces of evil.

Anyone got a link to a good site for avatars? Only ones I could find so far looks like crap and are 60x60 pxl.

I'm a good source of avatar pictures  ;D (write me a mail with some specs and I'll send you a couple of suggestions).

Otherwise I'd say the following:

Thematical search on google pictures (certain descriptors, historical names, physical features etc.)

The British national portrait gallery: http://www.npg.org.uk/live/index.asp

Google "portrait gallery"

Movie pics (IMDB search for any medieval movie and then googlepic the actors)

D&D homepages - both computer games & tabletop rpg (tons of stuff in there) Best site I know:

Well, I've tried looking for old women for br wiki and struggled - lots of women <from warm countries> but very few old women - even searching for nuns gives you lots of young women (and some deeply disturbing images but that's the web for you).
