Hey all,
Since it makes me sad to see you sad, I think we could do with a bit o' planned R&R at some point.
The Grand RoE Get-Together!
Now the questions are:
When? Where? How? Who?
Add questions of your own to the list.
-
where are we all living?
I would have joined this beer meet if I had some weeks of prior notice. But I'm in Norway, Bergen.
I understand some of us are living outside of europe.
-
There's a couple of us in Copenhagen, one guy in the west of Denmark. Bjørn is in Norway, Even in Scotland. Harvey & Gray is in the North of the US, Sheldon is in the Midwest, Marco is in Italy, Robert is from Croatia, Wiktor is from Greece. Bobby is from the US as well I believe?
Apart from that my memory fails me...
-
Well, for the Where and How I can offer the following:
Location:
Copenhagen, close to inner city
Facilities:
Spacious apartment with draft beer, WiFi hotspot and room to crash if need be
Closed large courtyard with benches/tables right out the garden door
Barbecue area on the roof, overlooking copenhagens rooftops, with overhanging ceiling so rain and wind is less of an issue
24h open 7/11 style store just out the front door (with alchohol)
;D

I'm located in Northern Italy, 20 km north of Milan

Mark (Mieres) is from Canada IIRC
-
I am in Suffolk or Marlow, Bucks, in the UK. I am guessing given our relative locations that either Denmark or Norway are the most likely. I am looking at air fares now out of Stansted. :)

Hooray! It sounds like a perfect place ;D
-
It definately does not suck. :)
But Marco has much better climate i bet. It could be fun to go exotic and go down south for an extended weekend sorta thing.
I'd suggest going to the US too, but i'm not game for that, unless I can set up a 14 day trip in combination... Jumping the pond is punishing the wallet enough, not getting a good look while over there would be a pity. ;)

Let me know how they stack up, I'm just down the road from Stanstead.

wow! :-)

I am currently located at New Haven, CT (USA), however I will be living in New York in 2010. My nationality is Greek though, so I spend my summers in Greece (thankfully).
-
Alabama, US, and tragically unable to travel much - finances, while not tight, aren't loose enough for continent-hopping. :-[
-
Enjoying the Canadian Summer - and I don't think the wife would let me skip out to Europe without her ::). I do have joint Canadian/Italian citizenship though.
-
There's two options for me this summer, and I hope to manage both.
It is now something like four years since the first RuinsofEmpire London Symposium(tm), and I believe a repeat is long overdue. Matt and Andy should be able to make it down, and all you other lazy buggers should be able to get on a plane easily enough.
The second plan is to try meet up with some salubrious North American characters during my soirée in Canada. Will be in Toronto towards the end of September, so you should all get into your big gas guzzling vehicles and drive up. I'll be in Vancouver as well, but from the sound of it most people are in the North East, so the drive might be a bit of a stretch.
-
OKay, we have a London meet in a few weekends time then! Game on!
-
I think I can swing by the London party too. But i'll need a date soon, so I can ask for some days off around there. :)
-
Hey all!
California here, so quite the distance to travel... Still, I'd be up for dropping in on one of these get togethers as a part of a ~2 week trip to some part of Europe (not picky, everywhere mentioned sounds cool!). Time frame is too quick for now, but perhaps down the road... :)
-Greg
-
With my current financial status, I don't think I can justify a cross-continental trip. London however, I could manage. For my wallet's sake, I would prefer Denmark or Norway, but that's just me being selfish.
Getting together could be great fun though, so let's work on it!

Definitely down the road. I haven't gotten the economy for anything serious these days either... Maybe in a years time I'll try and take a trip to the States :)
-
I am shocked by how cheap flights from Stansted to Copenhagen are - down at £26.99 midweek and £50.99 weekends. To add some perspective to this a train journey from my town (Diss) to London is £75.00.....
-
The second RuinsofEmpire London Symposium(tm) will now be arranged on 17th July. Location is still to be confirmed, but likely to be in South London somewhere. Brixton, Clapham or surrounds likely candidates. Looking forward to seeing all you drunkards there. 8)
-
Crap,
Ill be in london from the 20th to the 26th of July. And Ill be working on the 17th so I can't make the date.
But if any of you are up to finding a date more compatible with my week in London I will try to convince the wife that it is an event that we can't miss.... Ohh and the 22nd of July is taken for another event.
-
Funnily enough I will be there. As is I live no more than 45 minutes from London during the week and am happy to pop in to have drinks should anyone be in the vicinity on a week night.

Italians are everywhere ;)
-
I could afford a trip in London but not before Xmas time
-
trying to get off work from the 16th and forward, so if its possible to move it to the week where Hartwig can be there, I'm all for it.
-
I'm living in Norway and trips to London is quite cheap these days, so I might actually be able to get my ass over there for the 17th meeting.
Denmark also sounds like a great idea ofc, but I think from the city I live in, Trondheim, it's actually cheaper to goto London than Copenhagen :O
-

I could find a place to host some of you (My wife's father has a large villa on the shores of a lake) but I must warn you wheater in my area is very hot (35°C last night) with a lot of damp worsing the general climate ::)

Norwegian also has cheap tickets to Copenhagen (though not quite so cheap as to London); BUT you don't have to land on bloody Stanstead and ride da train...
-
Or the coach - not too bad all in all...
-
The great state of Kentucky here in the US of A. Though I was making plans to spend a month backpacking through Europe this fall. Though I lost one of my jobs the start of the summer so thats been canceled. So going across the big pond is now out of the question.

Or you could call me for a lift and have a beer in the car on the way back to crash at my place... I'm half an hour down the road if you ever get stuck at Stansted, although the train would be quicker if you're going to London...
-
It will be very difficult for me to be in London this July. I have a lot of paperwork to do in the US before returning to Greece this August. :-[
Have fun!
-

Looks like a quiet pint is turning into a rowdy gathering. Just to be clear, I take no responsibility for any drunken shenanigans that might happen 8)

We could invade the British Museum at night ;)

We could invade the British Museum at night ;)
Or invade the fourth plinth, with a Ruins of Empire banner :P
-
See, now that is tempting. Our Realms flags, conquering Trafalgar Square!
-
Conquest of England is primarily for us Norwegians! ;D
-
They came, they saw, they drank beer. Then we showed them some traditional English entertainment.
Photo's are on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40576754@N05/?saved=1

Nice pictures. Seems you have a great time over there :)
Could we please get some photos showing Andy as well?

-

Beer is baad...
-
Vacation is over - so I went cold turkey yesterday...
-
Beer is not bad. Beer is good.
It is the evil star badger who walk such a long way to follow the scent of the beer you are drinking that it is the problem. It is this evil star badger, who when he finds you asleep and having failed to include him in the party, decides he hates you and cracks you over the head with a paw and poos in your mouth so that when you wake up you knows he has visited and just how cruel you have been to him.
-
You have experienced this yourself yes?
-
You have experienced this yourself yes?
No I never have, but I have witnessed it many times. I guess the Star Badger must just like me.
-
Not sure about the Star Badger, but I've often been visited by an army of angry dwarven blacksmiths who seem to have shrunk in size to such a degree that they can fit their entire workshop in my head. Sometimes it takes a looong time for them to vent their anger and put the hammers away.
-
Whatever happened, I blame it all on Matt. 8)
Thanks to all who turned up. Hope to see you all (and others) soon.

Well there was the incident with Niels, the three Essex girls and the Ford Escort Rs but what happens in London stays in London so we promised we would not speak of it....
