: Regent Guide editing
: X-Medoere & RCS/KE (Thorsten) March 26, 2010, 01:06:38 PM
As I see it, prior to actually starting this we have the following so far:

DM - Resting on the seventh day (also I think I heard someone say he wrote this thing)

Matt - Holding the metaphorical whip (and also editing stuff, fixing layout issues, checking if rules works as intended etc.)
Thorsten - Striking a beat on the imaginary drums (and also editing stuff, fixing layout issues, checking if rules works as intended etc.)

Alan - Editing for coherence, logic and whatnot (not sure if he wants to remove or add the logic and coherence?)
Alexander - Assisting editor
Andy – Pedantic comments (joy!  ::))
Libor - Assisting editor
Linde - Assisting editor
Marco - Assisting editor
Niels – Snide comments and pointing out flaws   :P

And a Regent Guide separated into 10 Chapters:

Chapter 1 – Introduction

Chapter 2 - Domains

Chapter 3 - Regency

Chapter 4 - The Domain Turn

Chapter 5 - Domain Actions

Chapter 6 - Armies and Warfare

Chapter 7 - Oar and Sail

Chapter 8 - Realm Magic

Chapter 9 - Realm Spells

Chapter 10 - Characters and Domains

That's a rather good basis. Certainly better than one man doing it on his own :P
Although some of those chapters (warfare especially) will be a killer, I believe we'll end up with something great we can all enjoy the fruits of in the future. RoE unite!  ;D

Actually I'm thinking about combining 8/9 into one chapter: Realm Magic and adding one more chapter about gamemastering.

Chapter 1 – Introduction

Chapter 2 - Domains

Chapter 3 - Regency

Chapter 4 - The Domain Turn

Chapter 5 - Domain Actions

Chapter 6 - Armies and Warfare

Chapter 7 - Oar and Sail

Chapter 8 - Realm Magic

Chapter 9 - Characters and Domains

Chapter 10 - Gamemastering

Would people be opposed to an idea of cloud computing on this? I can strongly recommend Dropbox as an excellent means of working on the same project from different PCs.

Okay, in the interests of our continued sanity we will be using the following format for the editing process for the Regent Guide.

.odt - the open office text file format

And for publication

.pdf

I have already pulled down Open Office.

For compression were required I suggest we use .rar as it seems to be Bjorn's favoured tool....

Bjørn's favourite tool is a flaming whip... .rar is only on a second place.  ;)

May I also suggest, that in order to imrpove the editing process and allow proper layout to occur that we define an editing version of the document that has all non-neccesary graphics removed ie we keep the table and DO pieces but lose all the pretty pictures as we work out the real content?

While Matt has already thrown himself with glee and abandon at the RG, I have set up and shared a Dropbox-folder.

The idea behind this, is that instead of a lot of copying and pasting from one document to another, it will actually be possible for "everyone" to work on the same document (I say "everyone" because the concept of too many cooks in the kitchen still applies).

Having worked a bit with Dropbox in this regard before I can inform that it is possible to restore older versions of a document for a total of 30 days after it has been changed, so that shouldn't be a problem. Access to this folder is by invitation only, and currently only includes me and Matt (who hasn't used Dropbox before and so most likely needs to get over his anxiety for new stuff), and I have also sent an invite to Bjørn (gracious chap that I am).

Depending on the willingness of those two persons to use this, the folder may be pulled down again, or remain for all eternity (unless the internet breaks).

Cheerio...

I have a month's worth of evening shifts just about to start at work for me.

And on an evening shift I sit there and supervise 2 people and try not to fall asleep.

So if you need another assistant then count me in.

Err, a link please?  Perhaps a <simple> explanation.  I struggled to get open office...

Odd that you haven't received it. It's listed as sent in my events-list. I tried once more.

I have begun posting the final RG draft, chapter by chapter (more will come as soon as they are done).

The plan is to have poeple comment on the rules, layout, and whatnot.

That feedback might lead to changes.

After changes have been made I'll troll someone to proofread/edit it.
