regency gain from different classes
« on: July 15, 2013, 01:44:49 AM »
Brandon has brought to our attention that some of the classes gain regency from more sources than others..

Is it a game balance choice that Druids are more viable to start your own empire with than any other class?

Is it a game balance choice that the npc class adept collect regency from more sources than the heroic class wizard?

I know that the game works fine with the levels of regency the different domains collect, and that BS cap no matter how large your domain strength is.

But since that is the case the collection could just as well be changed to:

Adepts give either source or temple depending on what magic they can cast. (so they only get one.)
Druids gain Half source, full temple and half law (or another mix that add up to 2)
Wizard and sorcerer gain half law half manor and full source. (or another mix that add up to 2)

That model would not favor one class in a tier over another.

But to truly make classes leveled you would also have to take into account that some classes give the choice of 2 bonus actions.

If we say that 1 bonus action = half regency gain from one holding type, then the classes with 2 actions could simply have the choice of either of their half regency or to select only one class action.

There is a lot more in the bonus actions that need to be fixed.

For instance, most classes get a bonus regent action, wizards and sorcerers get a bonus character action.  It is a subtle but important difference.

True,
Ranked after how useful I find them as regent action:

1)Agitate. Almost always useful.
2)Espionage. Almost always useful.
3)Wage war. If you are landed you're going to use this action a lot, so 1 GB saved per turn is nice.
4)Trade venture, same as diplomacy. Action saving and money making.. Nice one.
5)Diplomacy as class action allows a regent to spend only a bonus action instead of a realm action. Great savings, but only works when you have someone to talk with.
6)Contest: Nice when you need it.
7)Research.. Research realm spells.. useful until you know the spells you want, then not so much.

As lieutenant action I think I would value Diplomacy and trade venture highest, closely followed by wage war, then the rest in the same order as listed above.

For reference here is what Brandon has proposed for 2.25
I think it would work in 2.21 also:

Actually, researching spells using your bonus action still costs you 1 GB too.
