Robert will be returning to RoE, playing Boeruine, as of turn 71.
-
Good news! Nice to play in a game with Robert again and he'll undoubtedly make life a little more interesting for Thorsten.
I assume we can forward Robert any emails covering past dealings with Boeruine now?
-
I just can't stay away from Thorsten. Where he goes, I follow... and make life
miserable fun 8)
-
I thought I sensed a disturbance in the force... but I guess it was only Thorstens anguished screams from Canada.
-
Muhahahahaha I love this.

Muhahahahaha I love this.
And finally I can converse with you without having to worry about our mutual borders or conflicting interests and agendas...
Actually, scrap that last one... without mutual borders will do :D

That would be a relief for anyone, trust me :)

Tears of joy?
-
We can call them that. Why don't you decide on an email-addy, and I'll send you the few mails I've shared with Boruine.
Also - I know you'll be Boeruine... But who inside Boeruine? Barrie or Thasbyrne?
-
I hope it is Thasbyrne. It would make this complete, though Barrie is fun as well.

Bite your tongue, sir!
-
YAY a new friend for the Governor! ;D ;D ;D
-
Hmm, Robert may not have many people to talk to tucked away on the coast like that, he needs to build something up in the heartlands to get him some friendly neighbours...
-
I will talk to him! Since nobody else is talking to me. :(
-

Pffhh. I've held like two public events, and you had plenty of opportunity to come to either one. So don't you come saying nobody wants to talk to you :P
-
He's too busy planning how he can find people he can talk to in Massenmarch. ;)
-
He should come to Bindier this fall and talk with the people there.
I hope Robert come too, whomever his regent is.
-

Nobody is talking to you except when you come knocking with your troops :p
-
Poor Alan... and everyone wanted to talk to you when you were the high cleric

An show up, uninvited? Never. ;)

Screw talking in Massenmarch. That will be clobbering time, less talking time.

I haven't thought about it and there is plenty to do already without more incessant talking.

I noticed. Create a crisis and everyone wants to solve it.

I miss Hubaere. He has fun and had fun adventures.

Everyone was invited, silly. I just refuse to send out mails to every single member of this community:
Word is sent out, that Princess Aubrae Avan (and the Chamberlain) is inviting everyone of import to a gathering in the Imperial City - a feast and a tourney in honour of the people leaving for the Crusade.

Yeah, I figured that Aubrae hadn't invited PETG.. She only likes the nouveau riche when they lend her troops.
Surely Osoer is talking to Wallac though, they're best buddies now aren't they? Visiting strange new lands together, meeting interesting new people, killing them, etc, etc.

Why so sad that none will speak with you if you don't have time to talk?

It didn't work out timing wise. By the time that happened, I was in Lyssan enroute to Rohrmarch. Them the breaks, unfortunately. We need cell phones in Anuire, it would be considerably easier.

Chat=cell phones :P
-
No cell phones.. I've been in PBEMs that had those in the form of senates or halls and these games were outright silly. We had Avanil rushing to help Rjurik realms against Urga-zai, the turn after war was declared, and then the Gorgon helped the other side. It was cold war on Cerilia.
Then again, there's the sending spell... :)

The Conclave performs the same function but so far we've avoided the sillyness of supporting each other that you note ;-)
As long as people take the game seriously there shouldn't be any problems even with a forum for nobles, or everyone - and they do add a lot of chatter and ways for the smaller realms to interact with others or win favours/etc from other domains.
-
The conclave consists of a limited number of players. When you have an imperial senate, then the bickering grows in intensity and the situation easily escalates beyond control, especially since alliances tend to be made over issues that might, realistically, be completely irrelevant to the realms in question.
And also, these "ambassadors" tend to behave as if they were regents and make decisions on the fly that then create global interventions.
I prefer the RoE system where reliable information is not as readily available and characters act with more mistrust.
-
While I agree that the bickering will inevitably increase in intensity and uninvolved parties will inevitably be dragged into disputes (something that I see as positive incidentally) if a game has a central forum, the real issue is in my mind not the forum in itself, but the attitude of the players.
If players take a cartoon/board game approach then you will get problems regardless of whether there is a central forum of some sort - at least a forum offers an excuse for why regents at the opposite ends of Cerilia are talking to each other, etc.
-
I've never liked the "Imperial Senate" style of forums the kind of bickering Robert is describing is inevitable and I try to stay away from such games in recent years. In one game we had a representative from Rhuobhe on "the senate", and in another one some temple of Haelyn (WIT if I recall correctly) brought a choir of goblin boys to "the senate" to demonstrate the success of their conversion efforts among the goblins. I mean no offence to guys who played Rhuobhe and the temple in question, but events like that really break the immersion for me.

Aye in CoT we have a long and proud tradition of not getting too involved with each other besides the usual partisan policies! ;-)

Indeed.
Cerilia is a big place. And many players are incapable for envisioning that communications in a 16th century Europe-equivalent is not what they are used to.
-
I've done loads of role-playing the last few decades (actually I have, scary), I connect this com time issue with the fog-of-war we have. IC it, IC it all and it works. Lack of knowledge is for me a key tension builder, the fun of predicting what is in short unpredictable for the overwhelming lack of info. The solution is initiative :) Be the ruler, do not predict, decide 8)
-
I try to keep the communications lag in mind, and the lack of knowledge about what's happening in other parts of the world, but it can be VERY hard sometimes. A combination of the age old player-knowledge/character-knowledge issue, and the presence of ABILITIES the player has (instant communication) that the character doesn't. I just do my best to keep from abusing things and make sure I don't bitch if I ever get called on something. Apologize and accept.
