The RoE Hearty Party of actions. :)

But yeah.  I'm running into conflicts between immediate goals and long-term ones now.  The game's been going long enough to start forcing hard choices - and discovering errors in my early strategies.  I don't suppose I can reload a saved game?

Why not? Just sell your soul to darkness and/or join the One God and you're set  :D

Curses!  I already sold my soul to the One God for a battlemech!  (Which, I'll note, still hasn't arrived....  >:(  )

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to get it Bobby. You probably got the Ikean "do-it-yourself" Mech... and have you considered the building permits? And where will you store it? And how will you even find the cash to fuel and operate it? All these things are stuff you never see answered in the glamorous Mech docu-soaps you're used to.

1) It's a battlemech.  I dare anyone to argue about permits with me in it.

2) It's a battlemech.  I will store it wherever I want to and dare anybody to argue with me.

3) It's a battlemech.  I have all the finances I need in the AC ammo compartments.

Problems solved!  Where's my battlemech?!

You forgot about the Ikea-part, where you have to assemble it yourself, and get more than half-way through the project, before you realize that you're either;
A) missing some important part
B) using an assembly-manual that belongs to an older model and thus doesn't really fit the current type
or
C) realize that the tools provided to you for your do-it-yourself assembly has nothing to do with the thing you are trying to assemble, so you have to try and get them to send you new tools, or improvise with a hammer, duct-tape and instant glue

Also the instructions are written in Swedish.  Which is a problem for me.

Don't feel to bad about that, Bobby. Even Swedes have a problem with Swedish..,
