The Wraiths of Ilien...

Resplendent in his shining armour and shield incorperating both Haelyn's Sun and Ruornil's Crescent Moon, Kaven Enlien arrives at the Cathedral of the Impregnable Heart of Haelyn.
By his side, also armoured, though not as splendid as the Baron, are two knights, their heraldry also depecting the odd design of sun and moon.
Patriarch Baeraelan, in a breastplate, and with a wicked looking mace at his side and two priests of the Celestial Spell identically armed and carrying a small bundle each with little flasks of holy water, follow closely after.

The six men are silent, looking expectantly towards the cathedral, waiting for someone or something. Only the creaking of leather straps beeing tightened beneath steel and iron armour, and the clanking of metal hitting metal fills the air.
Kaven steps forward and hails the guard.

"Tell the High Prefect that we await him here, outside. We do not wish to go armed under the archways of the cathedral."

This morning tolling bells welcoming dawn mix with the sounds of men being fiercely drilled. The air is vibrant with the sounds of metal, leather and heavy footsteps. The Impregnable Heart of Haelyn’s Grand Cathedral in Ilien resembles the barracks or headquarters of an army preparing for a crusade. The compound not only is a place for prayer but also a fortress and home to the renowned unit the Justicars of Haelyn.

With the last toll of the bells drilling comes to a halt. Standing in the center of the courtyard calm determination oozing from every pore, the Archbishop of Roesone, Sarane Bellamie, look to the commanders of the Justicars of Haelyn. Silence hold dominion then with a sudden cry, Sarane Bellamie set things in motion.

Lieutenants to me

Five men, all tall and grim looking, march to the Archbishop in haste. A few moments pass in complete silence, then, brandishing a brutal looking ornate morningstar the Archbishop speak to the soldiers.

“Attention. Pontiff to the Conclave of Temples, High Prefect to the Impregnable Heart of Haelyn, His Holiness Wallac Isilviere will inspect his troops in a moment. Now march to the square in front of the Cathedral for the people of Ilien to bear witness to our resolve and so they may take comfort in it”

The five lieutenants each walk to their detachment and give instructions.

Making a display of martial might, 270 men all clad in field plate briskly march with a rhythmic stride and in step with each other, to the square in front of the Cathedral taking up pre-arranged positions. On their way out the pass the party from RCS.

Dominated by the Archbishops presence, no one notice Wallac Isilviere silently entering the square opposite Sarane Bellamie before he is on height with the soldiers. As he passes the soldiers he greets each man by name. Slowly the High Prefect passes the 270 men that clad in field plates, stand in five squares, each consisting of 50 stern fighters. Standing a little in front of the Archbishop a group of 20 similarly equipped men forms two lines. Every so often the High Prefect stops exchanging remarks about deeds done and battles fought until everybody has been greeted by name.

Wallac Isilviere walks the last 20 paces to the Archbishop. Accompanying him is his personal assistant Rogal Destar. Wearing a shinning Full Plate armor Wallac Isilviere, not a young man anymore, never the less seems unencumbered and radiate rage and holy purpose. In one hand a grand mace, inscribed with prayers to Haelyn, in the other a shield heralding the Impregnable Heart of Haelyn by its display of Haelyn’s sun on a red background. Looking the men in their eyes, his commanding presence giving each a feeling that he looks into their soul, the High Prefect starts speaking in a low voice the volume raising with each sentence, in the end the High Prefects voice almost roaring like thunder.

“Justicars today you will, besides your regular equipment, be issued 3 vials of holy water and we shall serve the All Father by freeing Ilien from the yoke of the shadow. Preying upon the innocents, foul Wraiths have been stalking the streets of Ilien at night. By the All Father we will not have it! Today we will bring the battle to them. Let cold steel and holy wrath substitute their regular menu of defenseless people. Justicars of Haelyn your Lieutenants have been given their instructions and each detachment will set up stations around the city. Today, in the name of Haelyn, no more shall Wraiths prey upon the innocents. Divine Haelyn we salute you!”

Lowering his voice almost to a whisper Wallac Isilviere changes his stand.

“Now soldiers, pray with me. Pray for our mission’s success and pray for those that may give their lives so others may live”

With the clanking of steel the 270 Justicars go down on their left knee as if sharing a collective mind. The movement done in one smooth motion has clearly been done a countless number of times.

Prayers done Rogal Destar clears his voice then exclaims:

“The Knights of the Sun to me”

20 very tall and grim looking templar’s detach from the units main body and makes a square around their High Prefect, the Archbishop and Rogal Destar.

“Your Holiness we are set to go on your command”

Wallac Isilviere look one last time to the men then turn around and march, in the middle of the square made by his bodyguard, to the Baron and the Patriarch waiting just outside the archways leading into the courtyard of the Grand Cathedral. While leaving the 250 Justicars in the square salutes, then leaves for their stations in the city.

“The others will meet us here shortly”

Grimacing slightly at the display, and sending a stern look to one of the knights who offers up a snide comment, Kaven patiently waits until the templars have marched pass, though his eyes are on them all the way. .
"Ruornil bless the transcendance from darkness to light, Your Eminence." He says, as way of greeting Wallac Isilvere and his troops.
"How does the morning find you?"
He smiles as he walks towards the High-Prefect, stretching out his hand to shake his.

"That was quite a display. I hope the countess has been informed of the templars marching forth, lest she wakes up thinking she is getting invaded."

Kaven shakes the morning chill from his bones, even as he looks to the men gathered behind the High-Prefect.
"Would that I had had your men besides me, when I fought the Red Winds forces in Mieres. Ah, but that is not for now.
The rest will be with us shortly? It is a cold dawn, to be waiting for too long, and I am anxious to get to grips with the plague that resides below us."

Wallac Isilviere returns the greeting of Baron Kaven.

“The sun of Haelyn bless the new day. It’s good to see you and your men.”

Greeting the Patriarch he gives a small nod.

“Your Holiness”

Eyeing the men accompanying Baron Kaven with scrutiny the High Prefect seems satisfied after a few moments.

“I see you brought veterans martial and spiritual alike. Their competence will be needed my good Baron. Her Excellency has been given notice as well as detailed layouts of the patrol patterns and positions of my brave Justicars. My lads where sorely disappointed they were not allowed to participate in the actual fight”

The sewer guides arrive, their leader walk up to the group.

“Your holiness, Her Excellency said to assist you navigating in the sewers. We represent the both the guilds working in the servers – rat-hunters and servicemen alike.”

The High Prefect nods benignly to their leader.

“Did you bring the caged rats? When we get close to the foul undead the panic of the rats will serve us as warning”

The rat-hunter bows.

“As instructed Your Holiness, where do you want my men?”

Satisfied with the answer he replies:

“Destar, tell the man where you want him placed.”

Wallac looks impatiently to the archway leading into the Cathedrals courtyard.

“Baron Bellamie said he would meet us here shortly after dawn, the Swordmage likewise. I am a patient man but for today when every hour of daylight count in favor of the innocent. Flushing out the sewers during night time can very well have dire consequences but as the Patriarch will confirm the Wraiths cannot stomach the rays of the sun, blessed be Haelyn. We will march to the sewer entrance when the two come.”

You enter the sewers together (the others show up as well), guided by the Countess' men. It is dark, confusing and doesn't smell at all good. But you press on - realizing for the first time perhaps, how vast this underground world is, and how easy it would be for the undead merely to hide. But some well-placed divinations bring you closer to your target - until you are within a area of ancient tunnels and chambers, but countless centuries ago.

The undead strike at you for the first time then - a mass of shambling remains of humankind [OOC: Skeletons and zombies], led by the foul spawn of the wraiths [OOC: Ghouls and wights]. It is a tough fight, but against these corporeal enemies your armsmen are up to the task - at least now, when they are backed by magic and faith. Those that you do not destroy eventually fall back, disappearing into dark tunnels, leaving you to count your dead and tend to the wounded.

You are still strong, but you numbers have diminished, and the unexpectedly massive assault has cost you a lot of resources.

With the retreat of the last undead Wallac Isilviere exclaims

“Quickly, sprinkle the bodies of our fallen brothers with holy water, invoke a swift prayer to the All Father to bless their souls and praise their ultimate sacrifice. For their immortal souls and our wellbeing we do not want them enslaved by the wights. Others tend the wounded and then we take up the pursuit”

Almost before being issued his commands are swiftly carried out with due haste by the men, each filling out their assigned position and duty. This has been drilled time and time again.

Then taking up the pursuit the men set out, at a quick march, the alternating jog and walk leaving lesser men gasping for breath but which come naturally to the Justicars of Haelyn. The guides carrying less should be able to keep up else the party slows down.

“Lads to your stations we move on”

[OOC I assume our fallen cannot be raised being treated properly against just such an instance. If I am mistaken in my assumption the group will carry their fallen with them.]

A proper burial will prevent the dead from being raised - as long as someone doesn't take the time to desecrate their resting places. So you can be more or less certain that they won't rise. The only way to REALLY be sure is to burn the dead and scatter the bones (not something Anuireans usually do).

: DM B January 16, 2009, 06:22:56 PM
You push on - you are fairly certain the undead are luring you deeper in, because they are never far enough away that you completely lose track of them. And the strike against you - sudden violent attacks by ghouls and undead, trying to take down a guard, or strike at a cleric. A few men fall or are dragged into the darkness, but by and large you prevail - laying to rest a score ghouls and half a dozen wights in the process.

We slow down a little when it becomes apparent their rout is one on purpose.

"Brothers whoever controls these vile creatures seems not to be taken by surprise. Slow down to regular pace and tend the wounded. Let's try to take another route than the one they make us as I fear traps or ambush may be in store for us."
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Bellam & BC/TB (Bobby) January 16, 2009, 06:38:36 PM
"Prefect, we tread dangerously now."  Tristan moves to Isilviere's side, speaking quietly.  "These creatures are more numerous than we suspected, and their actions worry me.  Had our advance surprised or concerned the wraiths, their spawn should be seeking to stop or evade us, or perhaps to lead us away from their masters.  Instead, they guide us onwards while bleeding us slowly.  They seek to weaken us, and if so then they must intend to confront us eventually.  Tactics, I know, and this speaks to me that we have yet to see the greater part of their strength.  And though there be many rules of warfare, one ranks highly in my mind now - 'Follow not thy enemy's bidding.'

I suggest, Prefect, that we return to the surface to replenish our forces and replace our tired and wounded with fresh armsmen.  In doing so, we will frustrate their plans - our forces, in total, must surely exceed their own, and by this means we will turn their plans of attrition against them.  Moreover, I believe we walk a path they have set for us.  If so, any action which sets their plans awry is of value, and it may force them to meet us sooner than desired, and in a place not of their choosing.

Elsewise, we risk much, and in these catacombs there is little hope of retreat or reinforcement should matters turn against us.  Caution, therefore, is necessary."

“Aye you speak the truth. That’s what worries me as well.

I concur we should not let the enemy decide how we proceed. We miss the strong arm of Archduke Osoer and should take into account that we are not as strong without him.”

While the Justicars take a defensive position the High Prefect gestures for Archbishop Bellamie, the Swordmage, Baron Kaven & the Patriarch to join himself and Baron Bellamie for council.

Quietly he speaks

“Tristan suggest we return to replenish – I must confess that I agree there is danger in proceeding with the pursuit but should we retreat or pick an alternate route?”

The High Prefect look around
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Tornilen/SM (Alexander) January 16, 2009, 09:02:07 PM
Stepping the remains of a Ghoul that her cloak shredded, the Sword Mage joins the quiet conversation between Tristan and Isilviere. She has at least heard the last words Tristan spoke. As she comes closer to the two regents, her cloak seems to calm down and stops lashing out at nearby movement.

"I agree, we should exercise caution. They are obviously trying to lure us into a trap, I say we proceed at our own pace - staying watchful and prepared. When they spring their trap, we turn it against the scum and tear them to pieces."

“There’s also the matter of possible escape for the Wraiths. When night comes they can leave the catacombs and the sewers seeking a new lair. We have patrols on alert but gut feeling says wrapping this one while Haelyn’s sun still blesses the city is the right course of action.”

Turning to the guides Wallac Isilviere whispers quietly

“Three hours or so have passed and we have been taking the same general direction for a most of the time. I would like to travel at a parallel route for at least a while as to be less predictable. Can that be arranged?”

The guilder’s debate among themselves before they turn, map in hand, to the High Prefect and bows.

“Your Holiness we believe it can be done. The layout of these ancient parts of the sewers seems to match our map just like old Greg of the Sewer Guard said. We go back to this junction, turn right and walk 100 paces and then right once more and we are going parallel.”

The guilder points to a juncture on his map.

“The two routes end at the same juncture here”

Wallac Isilviere looks to Archbishop Bellamie who gives a slight nod.

“Set in motion lads”

Following the guides directions the party travel on a parallel course. Accordingly to the divinations used earlier it can be followed until reaching near the center of the ancient sewers mainline.

Now things become...difficult...so far you have faced enemies of flesh and blood (dead mind you, and suffused with dark power, but still) and no wraiths at all. That suddenly changes - and it is not a change for good.

Intellectually you know that the wraiths are incorporeal. But what does that really mean? Mean when you are fighting them down in the dark tunnels beneath the earth, fighting them on their own turf?

It means they can attack you as they please - suddenly appearing from nowhere, a wall or a ceiling, completely without sound, a barely-seen flicker of evil that rips the life from those that they touch.

I doesn't mean you are helpless before their onslaught; you have mages among your numbers, and clerics of great faith. But the creatures attack with so little warning that for you to survive you must gather closely together and be constantly alert. Which has the secondary effect of slowing you down to a crawl.

You've only lost a few more men, but moral is no longer good; and you're huddled together in a dense knot that can't more very quickly...and somewhere above you the sun is slowly descending to earth...

"This... feels wrong." Patriarch Baeraelan states, turning to Kaven.
"While the local Veil is weak in places we are moving away from the real source of the problem; It is not here it origins, but rather back towards the way we came, and down. Towards hill upon which sits the Citadel, noble quarter and temple district."

Kaven peers into the darkness for a second, trying to pierce it with his eyes alone, assessing the next route of attack while nodding slowly.
"Yes, these attacks could very well be an attempt to lure us away from the real threat. The evil fears us, and wishes us gone or dead, either which could very well happen, should we continue this war of attrition against these abbominations.
We must turn back!" he says, looking at the regents and those around.
"But we are too big a group, to walk undetected. Either, someone is spying on our movements by foul means, or there are creatures directing the undead from the back of their ranks. Whatever the reason, you can be sure, that we will be harrassed when we do. And even more fiercely than before. What is the fastest and easiest route towards the sewers beneath the noble quarters and temple district? Is it above or below ground?" He asks the man holding the map.
"For that is the way we go, and fast!"
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-DM Jon January 17, 2009, 05:50:30 PM
Amidst the drip of water and the eerie echoes cast by your heavily armed posse, watching every wall and every shadow, lit torches going to and fro, lighting the ancient arches for a moment and casting them into shadow again.
In the middle of your huddle the guide ponders intently over the map.

"The fastest route Is certainly below ground yer Holiness."

He points to the map and draws a line along one of the main arteries of the sewer system.

"This 'ere's the old grandway 'o shit, if'n we can reach that, we're 'alfway there. It's up this way and to the left, then straight until we reach the grandway."

He points back the way you came.

And as on que, a scream rolls up from below, from where you were headed. Someone howling for help deep down in the dank darkness.

 Heeeeelp! Anyboodyyy!? Pleeease!

You are left in a deep silence, shivers running down your backs. The knights move closer together, muttering amongst each others.

 The darkness grows thicker.
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-IHH/Wallac Isilviere (Kasper) January 17, 2009, 06:00:43 PM
Wallac Isilviere pause a second then look to the Patriarch.

“You may have a point Your Holiness. I think now is the time to increase our pace once more and aim for the dark heart of evil”

However if we are but almost halfway we cannot hope to make it. My good man are you sure?

Regardless we will need to increase the speed wether going forward or not

With that he calls to Archbishop Bellamie.

“We need the assistance of the All Father. On my command Invoke the prayer for unseen living. That will give us some time to proceed without the constant harassment.”

The two senior IHH clerics each start praying [OOC. Cast level 1 “Hide from undead” 1+ hour for what I believe is left of our men. Else we cast another one.]

“As long as we refrain attacking them they cannot harm us. Those undead that may not be affected by the blessing need to be dealt with but mind you only these”
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Bellam & BC/TB (Bobby) January 17, 2009, 06:30:17 PM
Bellamie points back the way the group came, determinedly ignoring the screams.  "It is the source that we must strike at - if the Patriarch can guide us there, we should hasten as- DOWN!"  Bellamie suddenly lunges forward, shouldering aside Prefect Isilviere and lashing out with his sword, blessed by the clerics.  His first strike lashes lightly across the face of the wraith that had begun to thrust out of the wall, causing it to pull back in, its surprise lost.  Bellamie, though, clutches at his reliquary with one hand and lunges forward again, crying "Hold, beast!"

His sword thrusts straight through the creature, embedding its tip in the rotting masonry of the wall, and the wraith shrieks, seemingly pinned - it continues to pull away from the blade, but only slowly, trapped in clear view for the first time.
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Tornilen/SM (Alexander) January 17, 2009, 06:53:40 PM
A handful of bluish motes of energy zips past Bellamie, earning an otherworldly shriek from a Wraith moving through the wall behind him.

Like the other's, the Sword Mage appears a little winded. Her robes and mask is covered in ichor from dead wights and other fleshy undead, though it to slowly sinking into her magical robes and disappearing. Before it's all gone, she is covered again.

Throwing a glance at the trapped undead, she shrugs and turns to Wallac.
"Remember that magic will not affect all of them, some strong-willed or powerful undead can see through it. Let's hurry forward."

She keeps going forward through the muck.

: X-IHH/Wallac Isilviere (Kasper) January 17, 2009, 07:00:14 PM
Seeing the pinned Wraith Wallac Isilviere exclaims a prayer to the All Father and attack with his mighty mace. As the hit strike true, the prayers to Haelyn inscribed on the mace give of a powerfull white light. The Wraith shrieks as if in panic relentlessly trying to get off Baron Bellamies blade.

“In the name of the All Father thou shall be no more. Blessed Haelyn help us”

Archbishop Bellamie seems bewildered [OOC the “Hide from Undead” spell did apparently not work on this wraith having saved or such]

“It seems this one resisted the invocation but the rest of them ignore us”

: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Bellam & BC/TB (Bobby) January 17, 2009, 07:24:53 PM
After two blazing blows from the Prefect's mace, the wraith suddenly wrenches its way free and flees, wailing, into the stone.  Bellamie jerks his blade from the wall and steps back, sweating.  "That is one that will trouble us no more for a time.  Perhaps the others will find caution in its scars.  Good sers, we must move quickly.  Your Holiness, goodman" he addresses the Patriarch and the guide, "can you then guide us to the true weakness that gives these creatures entry?"  Another scream echoes up.  He shudders, but does not look back.  "Before these trickeries erode our nerve any further, please."

Upon Baron Bellamie’s bold intervention the men’s spirit raise again.

Wallac Isilviere sighs and looks to the remaining bodyguards.

"Blessed Haelyn but for Baron Bellamie I would have been in dire troubles now. Take consolation we have braves among us and know our brothers have not fallen in vain. Theirs was the greater sacrifice though rejoice as their immortal souls now rest with the All Father"

Turning to Tristan Bellamie he continues.

"My friend that was a close one. You have my gratitude. Now let’s see where the Patriarch will lead us to"

Looking in the directions of the screams, Kavens grips his sword tightly.
"I will have retribution for the souls of those that have been lost."

His jaw firmly set, Kaven studies the guides map, then lightly clasps his shoulder with a mailed fist.
"Your services are valued comrade. Now, please stop me, if I head in the wrong direction, but stay behind me... All of you, gather up and follow. We will find the source of this before long!" With those words, the Baron of Medoere takes point, and heads in the direction stated by the guide, back the way they came, peering into the darkness and offering up a prayer for the souls of the lost. The rest of the RCS men follow closely after their leader, emboldened by his apparent aura of determination

[OOC With the use of Hide from Undead spell we try to gain a little less exposure to the undead]

The Clerics invoke Divine Haelyn to help hiding the men from the Undead.

“Now keep together lads and let’s get some distance between us and the undead. We will focus on the center of the shadow. His Holiness Patriarch Baeralen can help us find it.”

The party move on with great resolve and filled with the holy purpose of finding the source of the evil. After a long march with no apparent signs of the undead but their sounds behind, the Patriarch comes to a halt seemingly in trance. Slowly, as if hesitating, he points down the tunnel.

“Down there we must go. There we can hide no more. The time of reckoning has come. If we go down there no turning back will be possible; either we fail and succumb to the hordes or we succeed and crush the black heart of shadow”

Moving forward ever so cautiously the group continues

You make better progress now - it seems that either your magic is working, or you've somehow scared the wraiths of. You make good speed through the main sewers, and finally leave them to descend into one of the oldest parts of this subterranean world - caves that had been dug beneath the citadel hill even when humans first came here 2000 years ago.

You feel that you are nearing your destination. The RCS clergy, however, point out that there is a strong shadow current coming from the direction of the sea harbor. So now you have to decide what you want to take a look at - wraiths lair or the waterfront.

"To the river, I should say," advises Bellamie.  "Even if it is not the source of their entry into Ilien, that current could well be a source of strength for them.  If we can sever it, our battle with the Wraiths would be eased - and I have no taste for dividing our forces in the face of such evil."

"We agree then? We will most likely have to rest, if we battle too much more, but as Lord Tristant said, servering such a current could ease our passage later. Brace yourself for the unknown, and stay together." With that he takes point once more, putting himself in harms way, and pressing for the waterfront before evening falls.

For an instant the Swordmage seems surprised by the kind words of the High Prefect then quickly resume her aloof look.

"Aye to the sea habor we must go"

Not wanting to be outdone by the Patriarch the High Prefect increases his pace until he goes side by side with the Patriarch realizing they can hardly afford to lose him.

“Your Holiness two better fend than one”

: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: DM B January 19, 2009, 03:00:07 PM
Reaching the harbor quarter takes quite some time, the guide gets lost a couple of time and you have to backtrack. The good thing is that there are no more undead attacks - morale has improved somewhat, and the losses you have taken suddenly feels less daunting.

As you draw closer to the waterfront you run into the big underground sewer tunnels that drain away all the waste and excess rainwater from the city and empty it into the sea. Going is easier here - conditions are less cramped and not as oppressive.

A major problem appears - if there is anything down here, it is currently biding its time on the other side of the Veil. A few of those most closely attuned to the Shadow can feel that something is lurking just out of sight, but you do not have the means to reach it.

The Sword Mage stands on a ledge above the flow of waste, her head cocked. It is difficult to read her, her face being covered by her mask, but she appears to be listening to something none of the others can hear.

"It is close here. There is... something on the other side of the veil here. Even I can feel that."

The atmosphere here is oppressive, there is a feeling of being watched and queer anticipation hanging in the air.

She turns towards the others. "We have two options, either wait for nightfall and let whatever it is come and face us then, or try to breach the veil and either face it on the other side or make it come over."

She indicates Isilviere and Kaven. "You are our experts on matters of the shadow and the veil, what say you?"

"I'd rather not have to fight my way down here again today, so I suggest we stay. There are quite a few ways of luring creatures of the shadow into our world, especially when the veil is this thin. For one, the spilling of blood draws them in like moths to a flame."

There is a note of amusement in her voice as she adds.

"And before any of you assume it, let me say that I do not mean we should kill one of our number to draw it forth. Pain and blood is enough, there is no need for a life to be ended here."

[OOC Making a few leaps of reasoning here, I might be wrong, but the idea of spilling blood to attract a shadow creature sounds cool in my book :P]

Kaven sends the swordmage a short stern look, then looks from her towards Patriarch Baeralen.
"Could you locate the weakest place in the veil. The location, where something would most likely appear from? Perhaps we can for once prepare our battlefield at least. And if we could get someone topside, to indicate to us, when the sun was setting, we would most likely have time to rest a bit."

He seems to think for a while.
"If we can scout out the ground in advance, we may be able to use that to our benefit, by encircling it in adequate light. If it comes as far as that, I will gladly spill my own blood to lure a creature through at that excact spot."
The Baron turns to the swordmage again.
"Your Grace, I have heard the scholars speak of certain spells that prevent creatures targeted from escaping back across the veil. Would you by any chance be able to use such a formular? To anchor them in our realm, untill we can dispose of it propperly?"

Tristan has begun surveying the environment with an eye towards a coming battle.  "Perhaps the greatest danger, sers and lady, would be for us to become pinned between two enemies.  Should the Wraiths advance upon us, striking from within the stone as we seek battle with this creature, we would be hard-pressed indeed.  If there be any way to seal them without, or to prevent them from moving so easily through the stone around us, that might be of vital use."

He grimaces.  "My advice was perhaps not the best, I fear.  Whatever this beast may be, it could well be of no immediate threat, making the wraiths a better choice to strike at first.  Still, we have made our choice."

"Patriarch, if you will - your skills are perhaps our greatest asset at this moment.  I would not have you, of us all, weakened in luring our foe forth.  I would suggest that one of our knights, sturdy and brave, might act in your place, but lacking the force of divine power in their blood, they might serve less well.  Permit me to act in your place in this; I have neither the knowledge and divine favor of the priestly among us, nor the magical strength of the Swordmage.  If one of us must take a wound before battle, better it be I.  Either way, I would suggest we move quickly, now.  If we can meet this creature before full darkness falls, it would be to our advantage."

OOC: Aside from this, Tristan will set the various guards and followers into teams of three or more, instructed to watch one another's backs.  This wouldn't have worked well in the cramped quarters earlier, but now each team can work together to prevent wraiths or other insubstantial foes from surprising one another.

Patriarch Baeralen finally manages to locate a spot that is weak enough to allow you to pass the Veil - he's not too keen on doing this, since he job really is to strengthen such places, not weaken them by forcing passage. But since his lord and master thinks it is necessary - who is he to argue?

Nothing much happens once you pass the Veil - you are still in the sewers, and on the surface of things nothing has changed. From the sounds of activity down on the harbor, this is where you should be going - not underground anymore, but towards the sea.

"Lord Wallac, think for a moment. We fought for our lives on the way down here, and now you want to send a messenger with a letter through the tunnels up again. Are any of your men so eager to join their Lord in Heaven that they wish to go alone or in a small group? We move in force, or we do not move at all."

The Sword Mage hestitates a moment and seeks to soften her somewhat commanding tone.
"That is how I see it at least, maybe you have means I do not know of, but I think we should stay together."

To Kaven's question, she responds curtly:
"Yes, that is within my abilities."

On the streets things are quite different - the first things that strike you is how silent it is. There are no people on the streets of Shadow Ilien, and without people the endless noise of the city is gone.

Most of the smells are gone too - Ilien has a well-functioning sewer system, built during the Imperial days, but a city of almost a hundred thousand people do smell - why else do you think the upper class lives on the hill? At least there is some escape from the odors of the city up there. The shadowy version of Ilien just smells old - mold, rotten timber, dust, that sort of thing.

Ilien does look a lot like Ilien, the little you can see anyway, but not everything is identical. If anything everything is just...old...like a collection of all the ruined building that once made up the city but have been destroyed or dismantled over the years.

A faint moon shines down on the harbor, partially obscured by clouds, but giving enough light to see by - most of the time. Other than that there are no light sources. No start, no lamps, no torches.

Well, come to think of it you're not completely alone. You can hear one or more small boats being rowed towards the shore, and you can see the faint shine of hooded lanterns. It looks like a shore party is coming to visit...

"Let's move closer, but try not to give away our presence, untill we know our foe. If we can take them, before they land propperly on the beach, then we could push them into the waves... or shadows of waves... before they get into coherency!"

“The noise from moving in armor may give our position away”

Gesturing to the Sword Mage Wallac Isilviere whispers

“The realm of Shadow can be manipulated – can you perhaps mask the sounds we make?”
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Tornilen/SM (Alexander) January 19, 2009, 08:59:14 PM
The Sword Mage nods at Isilviere's words, then stretches out a hand. Usually when she channels her magic, she uses words and gestures, but for this only concentration is needed.

In front of the party, the path seems to change. Slowly at first, then faster. Small impeding terrain melts away while cover becomes more dense. A path is cleared, one that can be used to get to the harbour quickly without being seen and in time for an ambush. The path is covered with a spungy mold of sorts, absorbing all sound.

She simply whispers to the others: "This way." and then moves forward quickly, using the path to move quickly, easily, and silently.

[OOC: Woot, thought I never would get to use my good ol' Blood Spawn 2: Creatures of Light and Shadow. The Sword Mage definitely has a positive Seeming score - this is not her first time in the Shadow Realm.]

It's hard to tell in the poor light, but it appears to be five or six boats - of the kind used by larger vessels when sending men ashore - approaching the quay. You have good cover among the ruins of a low stone building, so there is little reason to fear being spotted ATM. Each boat could hold as many as twenty men. Soft voices carry across the water - they speak some foreign - but human - language that none of you are familiar with.

"They move here, with too much ease for my liking!" Kaven comments, looking slightly at the Swordmage, as if his words included her as well."We will have to assume, that they are accustomed with the shadowrealm, and thus evil. Prepare the men. I will attempt to discern their nature, when they get closer. If they truly are as evil, as I suspect, we should strike as soon as the first boat lands, and disperse them quickly. Swordmage, could you target those further out, and leave the once already on ground to the swordsmen?"

"Take heed. The shadowrealm often plays tricks and doubles what the real world does. This might very well be a shadowparty to mimic our own, I have seen similar before."
He readies his sword.
"I say we strike when the first boat runs ashore, and press them against the shadowsea, with the mage targeting those boats further out, to delay or possibly sink them. Wet and tired men fight poorly, or not at all. See if we cannot take someone to question later. This will not be easy, but it can be done, Haelyn willing."

Another problem with using this spell in the SW is that the entire place reeks of evil (not everywhere, but enough to make things problematic most of the time - you definitely can't make out every little sinner).

Lastly there is the nature of the SW that it resists divination in general - illusions and spells that fool are enhanced, but divinations are more limited than usual.

Good SW spells: Enchantment, Illusion, Necromancy
Bad SW spells: Conjuration, Divination, Evocation

The Allfather really doesn't say; he would never answer something as direct as attack first/not (that is for his mortal followers to decide - that's why they are there). That said you do get the impression that these men might be both evil, enemies of the Allfather in general and of Ilien in particular. That should make them YOUR enemies as well and perhaps an attack is warranted (but the Allfather isn't took keen on ambushes though - you should at least challenge them and give them the opportunity to explain/surrender; if you're going to be all LG and stuff).

Ooc: Kaven most certainly doesn't intend to stab them in the back during the dark, but will lift his voice in a cry to Haelyn and Ruornil both, as he approaches, to at least warn his foe of the direction of the attack. If he can press the tip of his sword against the foe, and subdue him, he will. But if they strike at him first, he won't just stand there.

Prisoners will be taken, if they surrender.
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: DM B January 20, 2009, 10:08:15 AM
It doesn't come to that anyway, for suddenly there is great commotion as the boats make ready to disembark the men - suddenly the water is being churned into spray, men are screaming, curses and commands are shouted and there are flashes of energy - it can only mean that there is at least one sorcerer among their number. Anyway, it is obvious that one or more spawn of shadow are attacking the boats (something from the water that you can't see).

A small group has made it onto the quay though, about 20 men. By the moonlight they appear to be buccaneers from some far-away land. A score heavily armed, but lightly armored men. Most are humans with very dark complexions, but there are a few large goblins among them. A trio in crimson robes stand out from the rest - two are busy aiding the men in the boats, terrible blue-white fire leap from their arms and into the dark below, earning them inhuman cries of main and rage in return. The last figure pulls down his hood, revealing a shaven and tooted head as his peers intently into the darkness (towards you).

The Sword Mage recognizes the robed men - disciples of the Red Wind.

: DM B January 20, 2009, 11:26:26 AM
It is hard to tell who actually began the fight, but one moment everything is quiet, and the next crossbow bolts and arrows are flashing back and forth. The templars charge with the High Prefect and Baron Enlien in the van, cutting into the more lightly armored opponents. The enemy might outnumber you, but his attention is divide and he cannot bring his number to bear. In magic you are evenly matched - he might have three sorcerers, but you have several priests among your numbers.

In the end the enemy is defeated or taken captive - about half a dozen men and goblins are pulled from the water, bringing the total number of captives to ten. The enemy slain number about fourty, but more may have gone to the bottom of the harbor. You count four boats or the remains of four boats to be correct. There is no sign of the creatures that attacked the boats.

Some of the enemy might have gotten away - you can only account for two of the three disciples, and one or more boats might have gotten clear as well.

Your own dead number about a dozen, with an equal number of wounded. Lord Enlien has had three toes hacked of his left foot, but otherwise the named characters have done well (but you are low on magical resources now).

Limping, with a grimace on his face, Kaven walks in front of the line of prisoners, holding the tip of his bloodied sword in front of each in turn as he adresses them in a gruff voice.
"Do any of you speak our tongue? What where youre intentions here? What are your designs for Anuire?!"

None of the captives admit to speaking any tongue known to you - possibly they are pretending not to. Hard to tell.

There is no sign of the last sorcerer, nor any ship (but you can't see that well in the dark, so that doesn't mean anything). If there IS a ship in the vicinity, it must have seen the magical fire though, and might decide to have a look. A potentially dangerous situation.

He asks the regents a bit away from the prisoners, and confer with them

"Without magic, we can do very little in this realm, so perhaps we had better head back and at least be secure in our knowledge that these prisoners might yet unravel what ever sinister plot is afoot here. The strenghtening of the veil should make it harder for these men to finish what they set out to do. And at least we know their most likely entrance point. RCS & IHH will be represented for interrogation, Baron Bellamie, the Sword Mage & Baron Kaven will be welcome to be present for interrogation should they so wish.

A little sad Wallac Isilviere counts the survivors.

“We have paid a high price for the night’s victory. Let it not be in vain. Bless those good men that have given their lives for our cause and rest their immortal souls. When we have defeated the Wraiths we also need to find the bodies of our fallen in the sewers.”

Nodding in consent to Baron Bellamie
“Indeed the purpose of these men and their masters is of great concern. While the hundred or more warriors, accompanied by dark magi, maybe insufficient to seize the city outright its possible the vanguard of a greater force. Perhaps they come to Ilien through the Shadow in small parties and gather for a surprise assault. We really need to put some spells to good use interrogating these men for all they know, including details appearing insignificant”

Then gathering strength from within hidden reserves he continues.

“Lads you heard Baron Kaven, look sharp and remember we are the champions of Good. When we escort the prisoners to the Cathedral let it show we return victorious. but first we pray”

The remaining men of the Knights of the Sun go down on their left knee and pray.

Everybody hide their wounds  and suppress limbering at their best of ability ready for return to the daylight wondering what have befallen the city during the night.

While marching through Ilien dispatches are send for gathering IHH's unit of Justicars as to make sure the prisoners gets a little intimidated when seeing they are going to get locked up where they live. Mind you in cellars and every prisoner get his own cell.

The High Prefect calls for his personal assistant and hand him a quickly written set of orders.

"Rogal Destar, please see to these orders gets carried out at once and with no hesistation. While we are at it remember to inform the Bishop we have lots of wounded"

Things are wrapped up rather smoothly; except that the prisoners are quickly seized by the Countess' guards and taken to the citadel's dungeons. You are also invited - all of you - to come to court and explain what has happened.

You can of course try to prevent this from happening, but then you create a potentially very dangerous situation - the Countess has made it pretty clear that "Free City" doesn't imply that she's not in charge.

Raising a hand to silence the rest of the group, Kaven interdicts, as the Countess men tries to seize the prisoners. Addressing whomsoever is in charge, the Baron draws himself to his full height and steps in between.
"These men are my prisoners. Thusly, they are bound to me by my honour and I intend to do my duty, as laid out before me by Archduke Carvaloen Diem, to unravel the matter of whatever harrasses this city.
If the Countess wishes to contradict me, she will not only slight my, but ultimately Archduke Diem's, word of honour. And for such a slight, there will be reprecussions.
I am aware that Her Excellency means the best for her city, but I will not allow these men to taint the land."

Kaven frowns.
"Now leave us and give my word to Her Excellency, or escort us to the Cathedral of the Impregnable Heart, where these men might be put safely away and their taint be barred from any and all Ilieneese. But either way, you will allow us free passage."

[OOC Bjørn you can and will have your way but really the Countess Modus operandi begins to get on my nerves more than I care to explain. My own nerves mind you]

Before the guards begin arresting everybody or Baron Kaven say words that cannot easily be taken back Wallac Isilviere intervene.

“Good men hesitate but for a moment. These men are enemies of us all. The Countess, the citizens, the whole Anuire for that matter. We shall not bicker among ourselves but stand together. In this city her Excellency has the responsibility for security and with that duty comes also the right to exert the means necessary. She has the right to demand these prisoners turned over and indeed for now that’s her wish. If her guards permit us will all go and ask for an immediate audience with Her Excellency. There we will lay forth our views for her and she can decide how she best thinks Iliens security is taken care of as well as the matter of honor. By Haelyn I ask you all to follow the path of wisdom and justice.”

If the guards persist arresting Wallac Isilviere will blow his horn for the signal of emergency upon which whoever member of the Justicars listens will bring the signal to the Cathedral where the bell will toll signaling to the lieutenants of the whole unit to break open their sealed orders. Orders to gather the holly army of IHH and set forth to the Countess castle and with the means at hand ensure the will of the High Prefect [OOC switching from Mr. nice guy to Mr. kamikaze-go-down-in-flames-and-to-the-hell-with-it lol]

A hand on the hilt of his sword, Kaven takes a few paces backwards.
"You would finish, what the shadows could not? You would attempt to arrest the head of your own state faith and the Pontiff of all the churches of Anuire? Think, what your actions might lead to!

Looking from the Countess men, to Wallac, the Baron shakes his head. "I will make reparations with Her Excellency later, but my word... and my honour holds still true.
These men are to go to the cathedral!"

(OOC: I think the Countess made it perfectly clear who is in charge in Ilien - yet you persist in publicly displaying that you do not, in her own home city and capital, defer to her wishes. In my (very OOC mind) I am hard pressed to find anything more stupid to do; yet this situation has come up before - it usually happens when one or more PC regents have become personally involved and absolutely cannot fathom why the silly NPCs don't behave as they should).

(OOC2: The Countess wishes to seize prisoners taken in her own city AND talk with a group of adventurers who have gone down to battle wraiths, but ended up with something else entirely? Is that so terribly strange??? Pardon me for saying so, but you, the players, have an equal say in what happens here.)

Seeing as how Baron Enlien still refuses to bow to the Countess wishes your little group is placed under armed guard - you really don't have the manpower needed to break free. Heroic you might be, but any move to resit by arms will most likely  be fatal for you all. The Ilienese probably have orders to treaty you firmly but nicely, but if blood first starts to flow...these things always get out of control.

The blowing of the horn is almost as antagonizing - Ilienese can't prevent the prefect from using the horn, but it definitely aggravates the situation. The horn and Baron Enlien's last comment...they push the guards over edge; they move to forcibly detain you.

Relenting the grip on his sword, it is with a heavyset scowl that the Baron allows himself to be manhandled.
"I will be demanding pen and paper at the first opportunity." He exclaims to the leader of the guard.
"And to speak with the countess in private."

"Be calm, my friends."  Bellamie is scowling, but relaxed, cooperating with the guards.  "Rash action will only serve the Shadow at this time, and perhaps give our prisoners a chance to escape.  We must explain matters to the Countess, and trust that she is willing to listen.

Prefect, Lady Swordmage - if you can watch over our captives and ensure that they remain controlled and safe, I feel certain the Baron and I can bring the Countess around."

OOC: No horn-blowing then...just ALMOST :)

Tempers are flaring on both sides, that is for certain. Fortunately cooler heads are also present...

Lord Mayor Adash Cedrune - an old man, a commoner even, but with a bearing reminiscent of nobility - arrives and starts shouting orders to the Captain; not that the man really has any military rank, but as the second-most important man in Ilien his words carry more weight than a simple officer can be expected to bear.

"Halt you damn fools. All of you HALT! The Countess ordered you to 'bring any who emerged from the sewers' to her, not kill anyone or make arrests. Put away your arms and let these heroes of Ilien pass; they have braved the underworld and returned with prisoners, and this is not a worthy welcome for such as they."

He then turns to the Pontiff:

"Honored Pontiff; the Countess would be delighted to hear what has transpired in the bowels of her city. She insists that it is of the utmost importance and bid you know immediately. Bring along those of your men that might ahve something important to say, lest they are too weary or wounded.

And these prisoners...if they are prisoners they are prisoners of Ilien, and must be placed in Ilienese custody. But if you feel it warranted, they I'll see to it that your men can help guard them and make sure they are accessible to you afterward."

He turns to speak to the entire group

"Does this seem acceptable to you?"

: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Bellam & BC/TB (Bobby) January 22, 2009, 03:11:54 PM
"Lord Mayor, as we go to explain what has occurred, we must also warn you."  Bellamie motions to the prisoners.  "These men were taken captive beyond the Veil, part of a much larger force - more than a hundred men, slipping into the city in the Shadow World.  We cannot be certain more had not already arrived, or will arrive soon.  We must assume they have means to return to this plane once within the walls - you can see the danger, I am certain.  Will you see that the guards of Ilien are watchful for these invaders until we can inform the Countess of the threat?"

Since the fight and during the following journey back through the sewers the Sword Mage has kept silent and to herself. When tempers were flaring, a slight nimbus was beginning to form around her, an advance warning that she was at her temper's end as well.

Now that things are well in hand, she returns to playing aloof and uninterested. Simply walking along and observing.

(OOC: Since no one has mentioned it, I call dibs on having investigated the corpses of the mages first. Not having any hope of finding "phat lewt", but since they were the Red Wind's men, perhaps they had something on them linking them to him...)

The prisoners are taken to the dungeons where they are placed under heavy guard - the Countess even has some magicians among her guardsmen. Oh, and now there are RCS and IHH priests/templars helping out too. It quite the crowd.

You have time to freshen up a little before seeing the Countess, and the Pontiff even manages a quick trip to the dungeon for one last look at his precious prisoners ;D

Preliminary interrogation has revealed very little, but now that you've had a chance to think about the men's origin is not so mysterious. They are Black Galley Raiders - Adurian humans and goblins working together on ships, raiding the merchantmen and coasts of Anuire...its not like it could be anyone else. But since they are working with the Red Wind's disciples, it might indicate that the Red Wind is taking his vow to rule Aduria quite seriously.

This doesn't really answer any why they were in Ilien, but its a start.

The Countess greets you in a small room overlooking the harbor. She is making ready for supper (it is now the evening on the day of your return to the Daylight World) with Archduke Osoer - and you of course (you being the two Barons, the High Prefect, the RCS prefect, and the SM). Both seem to be in a good mood. You overhear the Countess telling the Archduke that an escort has been arranged. Apparently Archduke Diem is expelling him from Ilien and sending him home overland through Roesone.

The Countess greets you politely and calmly:

"Welcome back heroes of Ilien. From what I hear you have had a remarkable journey into the underworld. But pray tell, who are these men and goblins you brought back? Surely they were not found living in the sewers?"
: Re: The Wraiths of Ilien
: X-Bellam & BC/TB (Bobby) January 28, 2009, 02:18:21 PM
"Indeed not, Countess," replies Bellamie, "for what began as a hunt for the beasts which plague your city became, as these things do, rather more complicated as we progressed."

"Two things did we find beneath your city - the first, what we suspect to be the lair of the undead; the second, the weakness in the Veil which first gave them passage into our world.  We were forced to choose which to move against as darkness fell, and we sought to seal the rift, that no further horrors might emerge.  It was our hope as we did so that we might discover what had brought the rift about, and whether some greater force was behind the wraiths' emergence into Ilien."

"I believe the gods took an interest in our efforts, your Excellency, because with each step we took, a new danger was revealed to us.  Upon reaching the rift and the Shadow World and preparing to see what might be done to seal it, we found to our surprise that we were not alone.  A fleet of boats had entered the harbor in this shadowy reflection of your city, carrying hundreds of armed and armored men, for purposes we could only guess at.  Their goal we must discover from those we captured, but they appear to be members of the infamous Black Galley Raiders, led by servants of the vile Lost known as the Red Wind who guided them through the Shadow World.  We returned here after confronting them, bringing with us as many as we could seize, that we might discover if still greater threats approach Ilien and the rest of Anuire."

"Consider what these men might have done had they not been discovered?  Without Prefect Isilviere's desire to aid and protect his fellow man, without Baron Enlien's determination to fulfill his duties and the Patriarch's skill and understanding of the ways of the Veil and the Shadow?  You might have seen armed men erupting from within the heart of your own city, seizing and looting and vanishing without a trace.  Seen a foreign and deadly foe seize control of magical power within your own demesne.  Seen your keep invaded, your guards cut down before they knew any threat existed and your own life threatened.  Many possibilities exist for their presence here, but all are unsettling to contemplate.  Only the nobility of these godly men and the heavens' guidance allowed us to intervene."

Wallac Isilviere nods in consent to Baron Bellamies words. Then looking at William Osoer with warm smile the High Prefect speaks up.

“Archduke Osoer it’s so good to see you again and it seems you have had a good time keeping Her Excellency company and it seems both of you are in a better mood than last time I saw you together”

Then with a small bow to the Countess of Ilien he addresses her.

“Your Excellency Baron Bellamie tells the truth albeit he forgets to mention his own unselfish bravery. I for one owe him my life.”

Considering how to continue the conversation but for a moment, the High Prefect looks at the Sword Mage.

“I believe the Sword Mage deserves recommendations as well. It was her who first recognized the three servants of the Red Wind and but for her battle magic we might have succumbed to the many waves of men assaulting our position time and time again. One of the three escaped and the other two got killed in battle”

“Those of our men who fell and by giving their lives saved ours and possible many innocents I pray for.”

Praying briefly Wallac Isilviere looks to the Countess

“How do you Excellency plan to proceed from here?”

To which, Osoer expresses a desire to travel, with baron Bellamie, by boat to Gulfport to meet his retinue and then press on to the Imperial City for the upcoming Sword & Crown.

Osoer leans a little closer to the Countess and speaks gently.

"They have done most well," he says before continuing.

"I doubt that they were here to cause troubles outright.  More likely that the Red Wind is curious of the doings of Anuire, and desires to remain abreast of them: the City of Ilien presents a prefectly avenue to do this, I would doubt if the Imperial City of Anuire also were to have agents of the Red Wind make attempts to establish there," he says.

"Additionally, Ilien's fleet has helped to keep the Black Galley Raiders back -- knowing your strength and stability would do much good on the part of the Red Wind," he says leaning back and closing his eyes.

"Actually, this development does not bode well for Cerilia's future, I fear."

“Regardless of the threat posed by the Red Wind the Wraiths still preys on the innocent. I think we should finish the job first thing. We are gathered many competent people here.
Your Excellency IHH is willing to make another attempt to remove the foul Wraiths. I hope that some of the brave and noble men and women gathered here will accompany me and my men. Perhaps we could settle who will be going should our assistance be welcomed.”

The High Prefect look at the regents gathered around the table his eyes resting on each one in turn ending at the Countess looking for a sign of consent.

“The mistake of not following the proper protocols was mine, and I am responsible for Archduke Osoer acting in good faith thought he was expected and welcome. Perhaps Your Excellency can persuade Archduke Carvaloen Diem to let Archduke Osoer do what he came to do in the first place and help fighting the Wraiths assuming the honorable Archduke Osoer is still willing to render such a service.”

With his last words he gives a small bow to first the Countess and then Archduke Osoer.

[OOC: If the Countess and Osoer is positive to the idea may I, being responsible for the diplomatic mistake in the first place, send a dispatch to Diemed asking for permission to prolong Archduke Osoers stay in Ilien for the specific task of banishing the Wraiths from Ilien once and, hopefully, for all?”]

You continue to debate the issues at hand (short version to save time):

- the Countess thanks all of you for your efforts; Baron Enlien, Baron Bellamie, the Sword Mage and the Pontiff reap quite a harvest of kind words - and each is given a fine gift (value 1GB each).

- the Countess believes that the Wraith threat is probably not at an end, but that it has been dealt with temporarily; the wraiths will not dare move openly for a while, lest they provoke another expedition.

- if there is to be another expedition, the Countess tasks the RCS to deal with it - the protection from the SW is their responsibility after all (will have to take place on another turn); anyway, Archduke Osoer is being sent back to Osoerde by order of Archduke Diem.

- of even greater importance is your discovery that the Black Galley Raiders have returned to Anuire, AND that they are working with the Red Wind. The Countess will increase the number of watchmen and will be extra vigilant both in the Daylight World and the Shadow World.

The Pontiff thanks the Countess for the fine gift.

Acknowledging the Countess authority in this matter he then turns is attention to Kaven and the Patriarch of RSC and offer IHH's help in solving the matter with the Wraiths once and for all.

"IHH offer our assistance to the RCS in dealing with the Wraiths. I suggest to ask Baron Bellamie and the Sword Mage for their assistance as well though I leave the decision to ask them to the RCS"

Turning back to the Countess Wallac Isilviere ask

"How do you Excellency suggest we deal with the Black Galley Raiders returning to Anuire, and their cooperation with the Red Wind?"

The Sword Mage graciously accepts the gift from the Countess and expresses regret at the initial issues there has been, though she does not apologize in any way.

Then she informs Baron Kaven Enlien that she will be willing to help him fight the Wraiths again, if he or the countess requires her assistance, they simply need to ask. The same goes for Wallac Isilviere, whom she thanks for giving her the opportunity to strike a blow against the Red Wind.

She expresses her pleasure at having fought alongside Bellam and her regret that she did not have the chance to witness William Osoer's prowess in battle.

After the dinner/audience/whatever, she leaves, meeting up with her followers in the city proper and heads back to Tornilen.
