Talinie.
« on: June 26, 2013, 02:03:24 AM »
Lessons at sermon in NIT by unknown priest in unknown temple:

"A young man planted a rose and he watered it and cared for it faithfully.
Before it blossomed, he examined it. He saw a bud that
would soon blossom. But he also saw the thorns, and he
thought, 'How can any beautiful flower come from a plant,
burdened with so many sharp thorns?'
Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose,
and before it was ready to bloom, it died."

"So it is with many people. Within every soul, there is a rose.
All godly qualities seeded in us by Haelyn, growing amidst
the thorns of our faults. Many of us look at ourselves and
see only the thorns, the defects. We despair, thinking
nothing good can possibly come from us. We neglect to
water the good within us, and eventually it dies."

"This is the sin we are here to stop!
We will tend to you, the people of Haelyn, so you may learn to
recognize your godly potential. We can show you the way, but it
is you who must recognize your own potential for good and nourish it.
See it hiding behind its thorns, and through your deeds make it grow
so it in time will fill your soul. Fill it with goodness so when you are
judged, in this life and the next, all can see that you are as godly as
any man can be."
Thuriene Donalls.
Thane of Talinie.
Supreme Hierarch of the Northern Imperial Temple of Haelyn.

"Those who hear the word of Haelyn and obey are like plants rooted in rich, fertile soil.
They will thrive, grow and be the most beautiful flowers in the garden of man."

"As are written in the scriptures, so act we the faithful servants of Haelyn and our Thane." Unknown Knight of Talinie.

A Knight of Talinie must be the living embodiment of ten virtues. And so they all are:

Faithful
Thrifty
Truthful
Temperate
Just
Sagacious
Untainted
Resolute
Diligent
Valorous

Those ten virtues are derived from the 5 perfumed virtues: (As written in the Holy Aromatic Scriptures)

Honesty (gardenia)
Prudence (sage)
Thrift (heather)
Cleanliness (violet)
Work (rose)

The Mage of Talinie, upon overhearing one faithful describe the above to another, almost feel tempted to step from the shadows to make a sarcastic comment.

...

But then just rolls his eyes, and walks away.

Oath of knighthood in Talinie as spoken by the priest of Haelyn with the new knights kneeling and repeating his words:

[I shall believe all that the Northern Imperial Temple of Haelyn teaches, and shall observe all its directions]

"Thou shalt defend the Temple of Haelyn."
[I shall defend the Temple of Haelyn.]

"Thou shalt respect all weaknesses, and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them."
[I shall respect all weaknesses, and shall constitute myself the defender of them.]

"Thou shalt love Talinie above all other mortal realms."
[I shall love Talinie above all other mortal realms.]

"Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy."
[I shall not recoil before mine enemy.]

"Thou shalt make war against the Infidel and the tainted without cessation, and without mercy."
[I shall make war against the Infidel and the tainted without cessation, and without mercy.]

"Thou shalt perform scrupulously thy feudal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of Haelyn."
[I shall perform scrupulously my feudal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of Haelyn.]

"Thou shalt never lie, and shall remain faithful to thy pledged word."
[I shall never lie, and shall remain faithful to my pledged word.]

Story of the foolish fishermen:

Many years ago in the province of Seaport some local fishermen erected a shrine to Nesirie and started worshiping her and in doing so they neglected to worship the Lawmaker Haelyn as much as he justly deserved.
Nesirie could not bear the thought that her noble husband Haelyn was not worshiped as zealously in Talinie as he was entitled to, and so she wept and storms gathered on the seas and many of the small fishing vessels were in danger of being shredded upon the teeth of the shore.

Haelyn came home to find his wife weeping and asked her who had wronged her so that she cried. And Nesirie replied that it was not her but Haelyn himself that was wronged. The lawmaker consoled his wife so she stopped crying and the oceans calmed. I will take care of this my wife, don't you worry for my judgment will be fair.

At that moment the devout Presbyter of Poolewe who was staring out over the see, wondering why the ocean has so abruptly stormed and calmed again. The devout presbyter got a vision of the wayward fishermen praying to Nesirie and knew what had transpired. He saved the fishermen from their folly and after a few years of prayers, repenting and purification of the soul. The fishermen no longer yearned for the sea but had become loyal and devout farmers. And in its mercy, the Imperial temple allowed the farmers to work the temples fields. And the sea has been mostly calm ever since.

But should the seas blow to storm, remember this story and know this before you think of praying to the divines wife: It has been the cause of the storms before and misguided prayers will not stop it. Pray instead to Haelyn, that he may console his wife and calm the seas as he has done before.

[So is it preached in the Northern Imperial Temple of Haelyn]
