Messenger from ETN announces that High Priestess Maire Cwyllmie is in Ilien and ready to attend. She had some health issues but now she should be fine.

A young priest, barely past his 30th year, from the local temple of the Celestial Jewel makes presentation to the Tribunal of Illien.

He stands before the tribunal, the picture of poise, decorum and confidence, except that those who look closely can see a small wavering in his robes that suggests his knees may be shaking. Nerves perhaps at addressing so many powerful personages.

"Honored priests, noble lords. I am Deacon Rhuven, head of the Temple of Sarimie in Illien. Patriarch Coumain, the Most Sacred Broker of Sarimie and head of the Celestial Jewel of Sarimie bids me bring you the following message.

Archprelate Kharnmoin of the Western Imperial Temple, liege of the Celestial Jewel of Sarimie, has at our request undertaken to represent the Celestial Jewel of Sarimie. As a follower of the Great Laymaker the Archprelate will be able to provide more learned counsel to the Tribunal than would a servant of the Lady of Luck.

I am given to understand that he is at this moment on fast boat to Illien, taking advantage of the fresh winds of spring to speed his passage here."

With this he bows, rising from the bow with the slightest of jerks. Waits a moment to ensure that there are no questions and then departs.

Within the week, a ship named "The Honest Broker" arrives at the port in Ilien. Disembarking from it is the Archprelate Toreas Kharnmoin of the Western Imperial Temple, along with his advisory staff and personal guard. Accompanying him is Cardinal Delvaine of the Celestial Jewel of Saramie. They are greeted by Deacon Rhuven, who quickly escorts them to the Sarimie temple.

The Marquis of Thasbyrn arrives some time later (but still before the start of the tribunal). It is not know if he came by ship or somehow made it to the city overland.

Only the Archduke of Diemed has not made his presence known. If he will not come, then another must sit in his place.

The Tribunal is in attendance, but is one member short. At the urging of the Pontiff it is agreed to postpone the start of the examination for one more week. In the meantime Duke Diem must either be persuaded to show up, or a replacement found.

A few days later a galley pulls into port and the crew rather quickly makes ready for its passengers to depart.  Almost before the gangplank is securely in place the Governor Arron Vamuel of Mieres is marching down to the dock looking about impatiently.  Several guardsmen hurry to catch up with him as he turns to shout at a young boy on deck.  "You their! Boy! What is your name?"

The boy looks back and forth to make sure he is the one being spoken to, "Uhhhh, Galen m'lord."

The Governor nods, "Lets see how fast those legs of yours can move.  Bring word to the High Pontiff and the Tribunal of my arrival and be back quickly.  If your fast enough there's an extra sovereign in it for you."  The boy looks stunned for a moment and then runs off the ship and down the docks.

The Governor chuckles for a moment, "Not that bright- didn't even ask the way."

It is made known that Duke Diem's seat will be sat by Governor Vaumel, a supporter of Diem's cause, yet not his vassal.

There has also been made provisions for certain people to observe the Tribunal - though they may not speak.

In the castle the Countess is waiting to be summoned.

Supposedly, since the Pontiff arrived, she have spend most of her time in prayer.
Her Excellency Geraldine el-Mesir,
Countess of the Free City of Illien
Guildmistress of Port of Call Exchange,
Mage of Ilien & Protector of her people.

OOC: Domains that have been given the right to OBSERVE the Tribunal must each expend a Court/Grant action to appoint and empower an envoy. Domains that have a SEAT will have to use Diplomacy.

In the second week of the second month of Spring the Tribunal is convened.

It's goal is to examine and try Geraldine el-Mesir for the alleged crimes of witchcraft and heresy.

By extension the Tribunal will also look into the heretical teachings of of the One God, the Ghost of Ilien, and the matter of the Red Wind.

the Tribunal will NOT concern itself by mundane sin or political matters (such as Ilien's rebellion).

---

The tribunal has seven members, including three High Priests and three noble lords, plus its Chairman.

Wallac I, The Pontiff of All Anuire, will head the Tribunal and be its chairman.

The temple members are:

MC of the ETN
RC of the CJS --> Has stepped aside to let TK of the WIT, his liege, take his seat. The Chairman has accepted this.
AE of the RCS --> Has offered his seat to the OIT, his liege, but they have not replied.

The noble members are:
CaD of Diemed --> Has not shown himself in Ilien as of yet, and thusly his seat has been offered to AV of Mieres, Diemed's ally, who has accepted.
KE of Medoere
MDr of Thasbyrn --> Has sent his son, Moerdred, to act as his proxy. The continued war between Avanil and Boeruine has made it impossible for him to attend. The Chairman has accepted this.

A few dignitaries from other domains have been granted the right to observe the proceedings; they are not allowed to speak on pain of having their tongues cut out.

In addition there are a few staffers and guards.

Plus Geraldine of course.

The Tribunal will be presented with the charges against Geraldine.

It will then examine the evidence - and if needed question Geraldine directly.

Then it will decide by simple vote if she is guilty or not (members of the Tribunal may also abstain).

The Chairman has no vote, except to break a tie.

Once the verdict has been reached on one point, the tribunal will move on to the next.

Only should she be cleared of EACH AND EVERY charge can Geraldine hope to walk out alive.

On the first day Geraldine is brought before the Tribunal.

The Chairman reads the first charges (there are quite a few more); that Geraldine be tainted of body, mind and soul.

The evidence gathered will then be presented over the course of three days; one for each part of her said to be tainted by the Shadow.

The punishment for bodily corrupting be burning at the stake.

The punishment for corruption of the mind be having the tongue cut out, eyes burned with hot irons, and burning at the stake.

The punishment for corruption of the soul be having the tongue cut out, eyes burned with hot irons, being flayed alive, and buring at the stake.

Geraldine: Not guilty.

Wallac: To which charge.

Geraldine: To all of them.

Wallac: It would perhaps be best for you, Geraldine, if you adopted a more humble stance and prose. Lest the charges of impiety and godlessness in the presence of the Pontiff be added to the charges.

Geraldine: Silent acceptance.

Wallac: Does any of the members of the Tribunal wish to speak before the evidence is presented?
