Rule Holding and Take 20
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:52:34 PM »
Hey Bjørn... You have previously stated that Take 10 cannot be combing with Influence... So I believe you either just changed policy, or made a mistake.  :)

Which is it?

Take 10 and Take 20 are two completely different things. Check out the rules.

Oops! Sorry!

Page 77: "When taking 20, using influence does not force you to make a dice roll."

Well, glad we got that cleared up. *cough*

Take 20 is particularly useful specifically for that.  For instance, this season I wanted to rule a holding, which required that I spend a fair amount of influence to bring me within shouting distance of success.  If I rolled poorly, I could lose all that gold without any return for it, which wasn't acceptable.  By Taking 20, though, I could guarantee the roll I needed (barring others using influence to block me, which I put a big offensive pool out to counter), ensuring that my money wouldn't be wasted.  I don't use it so much for "I need a high roll" actions, as I do for ones that would be disastrous or incredibly wasteful if they failed due to poor rolling.

And there were others taking advantage of this rule as well, to good effect.

The only down-side of the Take 20 rule is that you must use 3 actions which can be difficult, but with planning it can work (you still have the bonus action and the lt action, so you're not crippled).

Note that if you roll a natural 20 we count it as a result of 30.

Main downside of using the Take 20 is that all your main regent actions are used, thus making it impossible to take any Realm actions in the same turn (bonus actions can't be used for realm actions).
