Tribunal in Ilien
« Reply #180 on: January 20, 2011, 11:36:53 AM »
Geraldine lets out a sigh of relief as the Pontiff vote for not guilty. A tear make its way down her cheek as she with thankfull eyes look upwards. Her chains rattling quite a bit while weepingly gives thanks for the state of her immortal soul.

Diem leans back in his seat with furrowed brow, tapping his fingers on the table in front of him.

The Governor leans forward and whispers into the Archduke's ear.

Wallac announces that the Tribunal is at an end. The accused has been found guilty of heresy of the mind in that she:

- cooperated with one of the Lost, a known agent of the Shadow
- allowed the establishment of a heretical faith in her domain, and took advantage of its foul blessings
- that she willfully cooperated with a vile ghost, which caused the death of many of the faithful

The punishment for corruption of the mind be having the tongue cut out, eyes burned with hot irons, and burning at the stake.

The sentence will be carried out as soon as the affair regarding the Crusade has been sorted out.

Diem reels in visible disgust at the verdict, those near him can hear him mutter "Mutilous torture!  I would have rather had her head on the battlefield and let Haelyn decide what to do with her soul than suffer such sadisticisms!  At least then it would have been less painful for the both of us."

The Governor leans forward and mutters, "Not exactly something I am interested in watching either.  As its seems there is no further need for me to remain I think I will head back to Mieres soon and skip the gruesome event altogether."

The lean knight from Avanil rises from his chair and stretches legs sore from sitting down for so long.
"The Tribunal saw her convicted, and the punishment was known by all, milords" he remarks dryly in his nasal voice as he approaches the Governor and the Archduke and bows before them. "Governor, Your Imperial Grace".

The Avanese knight remains standing, as he gazes towards the convicted. With the Tribunal concluded and the verdict settled, matters can at last be discussed more freely. "The cruelty of it is as much a statement to prevent others from engaging in heresies as anything else. Seems to me that the least we can do is see this through to the end - and make sure accurate description of the punishment are spread throughout the realms..."
The gesture he makes with his mouth might have been a smile, if it hadn't been strangled in its birth. "All in an effort to prevent the heresy here from spreading elsewhere, milords."

The Countess doesn't seem thrilled about the prospect of a gruesome death, but she still seems glad that her soul was found not to be tainted.
She walks stoically past the members and guests at the tribunal, offering no resistance as the guards escort her back to the dungeon.

Before the members of tribunal go away, Maire stands and speaks: "Honorable members of tribunal, your Holiness. It is a long tradition that at the time of crusade sinners and criminals are allowed to redeem themselves in a holy fight against evil. Shouldn't be Geraldine el-Mesir allowed the same? To join the crusade as an ordinary member and either atone for her sins by death in battle against shadow or prove herself in that fight to be worthy of life?"

That comment definitely puts an end to the silent dignity of the chamber as two camps take shape, the smaller Redemption camp and the larger Burn the Witch Now camp.

Fortunately the pontiff has left the room, or you would all be in for some serious repentance.

At Marie's words the Governor turns on her quickly, and breaks with his, up to now, silent demeanor.

"Really Priestess!" he retorts, not quite yelling, but harsh enough that some of those nearby take a step back.  "I wonder, are you going to be going on crusade as well then?!"

Narvelon responds "A dangerous precedent you suggest, to have one convicted of corruption of the mind join a holy crusade.  Such action could put others at risk, as well as the convicted's immortal soul, which this tribunal just found free from taint at the moment.  Sinners and criminals are one thing, outright heresy is another.  Better she go to Haelyn's cleansing fires, lest we all suffer."

There are some angry shouts in return, mostly having to do with sinners being forgiven...Drago Tanar, Marya Tanar, the Warlock, the list goes on...

Staring back in Govenor's eyes firmly, Maire asks with almost unnoticeable smile: "Do you want me to go? I suppose you are joining as well."
