: P&H Who's who
: Yggdrasil (DM Andy) July 12, 2013, 10:20:14 PM
I attach the P&H who's who.

Please note that for the realms not directly in play we haven't changed all the regents yet, so Robhan is still High Marshal of HA for example, you also have a few people on the list who are somewhat more distant than others.

Otherwise some names, etc have been changed to protect the innocent, and for that matter the guilty.  Some were shy and were removed, some may not be entirely honest.

Q1 from Bobby:

In the P&H, one Source holding in Giant's Fastness in the Dhoesone tab is listed as owned by "SOTT".  This abbreviation isn't listed in the sheet you provided.  Can you tell me who this is?

Sources of the Thorn Throne (line 94 for the investigative), this is a collective of elemental spirits, sidhe, fey of various kinds etc in service to the crown of Tuarhievel

In the Blood Skull Barony and Giantdowns, there is a regent listed as "Darkon".  Is this the same as the "Dark" abbreviation in your list, the "Demons of the Dark"?

No.

Darkon is a famed wizard from the Blood Skull Barony, rumoured to be the greatest mage of all time and a survivor from the sorcerer-kings of Gandvick that survived the coming of the faith of winter but scorned to dwell amongst those who failed to recognise his greatness.  He is said to devour other mages to steal their magic and eat the hearts of heroes to gain their strength.  He is noted for his courage in battle in raids by the barony, for being served by great bull-men and veldt giants, and to be irresistible to women.  His genius is matched by his great artistic ability, several skalds who were captured by the barony won their freedom after he recognised their skills.

The Devouring Dark is a myth, spoken of by fools who tried exploring the Shadow World, sidhe that lie of immortality and magic on the breeze, and delirious fools who failed to say prayers before they slept and whose dreamselves walked unprotected in the land of nightmares to be rent and twisted by the Devouring Dark.  Some old sources mention a knight who fled the Gorgon's Crown after falling into a forbidden love, the knight said that the Dark battled the Gorgon and prevented him from storming the Shadow World, it is said to be the embodiement of despair and hunger, the nightmares of the gods gained sentience and hate for life.  Clearly it is simply the sort of tall story that bards tell to gullible fools and old women who like to scare themselves with stories by firelight.

Note to self: Do not contest Source held by the utterly laughable tall tales.  You will fail your save to disbelieve, and they will consume your soul.

How about the Tyllddyr Khorim?  Who are they?

As a nice well brought up young lady Clumine is clearly unlikely to ever to meet such base beings even should they exist which clearly that one doesn't  :o

The Tyllddyr Khorim are an ancient order of wizards and scouts in the Giantdowns.  They are strongly prejudiced against tomb robbing often coming into conflict with those seeking to plunder the old giant tombs, they loathe any sort of summoning spells, and spend much of their time protecting the Rjurik from vengeful spirits of the Downs.  They shun overt "unnatural" magic rarely casting realm spells, and get on moderately well with the Emerald Spiral barring the occasional argument over granting sanctuary to runaways.  They have supported the Watch since its inception and at one least one member is always to be found in or around Midjarna village.

I have a few names that I can find now description for in the Blood Skull Barony.  Could you describe them please?

Scar
Konesh

Additionally, can you give some color on who/what COMS is?

Scar is the Scarlett Baron, the Who's who incorrectly shows SB, sorry.

Konesh is a very large, gnoll with truly epic body odour.  He rules the gnoll tribes in the barony (provinces Shir'kh'an, Sh'kkra and Valkith) but grudgingly accepts the Baron as his master.  .

COMS are the Children of Moonlight and Shadow.   They do some trade between isolated communities and sell various quasi-magical trinkets that make winter a bit more bearable and so are best known in Hogunmark and Jankaping as peddlers and itinerant skalds, however their true power is source based.  They are the remnant of a sidhe realm in the west - basically the sidhe who didn't retreat to the east when the Rjurik arrived en-masse, plus a number of skalds, hanner sidhe, misfits and loners etc who found refuge with them.  they date back a loooong time.  They have something of a feud going on with the Ice Maiden of Gandvick and have spent a lot of resources fighting the ice maiden's expansion - Ohlaak has snaffled some of their sources as a result as has Qurad Al-Din and Darkon - the COMS seem to see the Maiden as a much more serious threat for some reason.

Actually, while your at it, and seem are making extremely amusing and fun, NPC descriptions...

Can you describe the Ice Maiden, Sketa, Qurad al-Din and ... Papa?

The Icemaiden.  When the White Witch of Gandvick cast down the Sorcerer Kings of Gandvick and freed the people from tyranny she did not act alone.  In addition to her brave Huskarls and the Hunters of the Great Ice the Witch was aided by some within the Tower of Sorcerer themselves.  The Icemaiden is the leader of those sorcerers who aided the White Witch and thereafter swore to serve the church.  Never entirely trusted by the people of Gandvick, and routinely smeared by the jealous folk of Hogunmark as a summoner of demons and spirits the Ice Maiden strives to ensure that Gandvick's land is free from the villainous magics of demons, sidhe, and renegade wizards who refuse to swear oaths of service to true faiths.  She is noted for her great mastery of storm magic and her habit of stripping and chaining foes before freezing them in barrels of water.

Sketa.  Is the jarl of Aandvjor in Halskapa, a hard-working woman keenly aware of the weakness of her homeland since King Bervinnig began to lose lucidity. Sketa works ceaselessly to maintain her clan's strength and the realm's cohesion and as a result many folk of Halskapa see her as an obvious successor to the heirless king.

Qurad al-Din.  Some great curse blackened this mage's skin and left him prone to speak in gibberish when stressed - and clearly mad for this wizard claims to come from the mythical land of Pipyret.  Qurad is despised by the druids, feelings he returns in full measure, but so far his sworn loyalty to Fulgar the bold has held him loyal to the Rjurik.  Qurad is prone to complaining that it is cold, playing oddly shaped flutes, painting shameless women in wanton poses, and animating the dead.

Papa.  This mage is described as kindly and grandfatherly by many isolated Rjurik, however others describe him as cantankerous and irritable if bothered.  He is noted for alchemical skill and reclusive nature - beyond mention of a large white beard and red hat and significant age there is little known of his appearance.

That's "Count" Robyn Ghonall.  A mysterious and dashing fellow with a penchant for heorism.  The Count may have a safe haven to the south, the "Count" is an implacable foe of the Five Peaks Ogres and has spent much time training the peasants of the Five Peaks to form them into a crude militia so that they can defend themselves against the bandits and monsters of the land - some claim that he is trying to drive the beasts out and forge a realm of his own.
