In short, if you need them to RP your domain better, then so be it -- but they are not and will never be a centralized piece of a domain -- instead AA's are like nothing more than Assets to be used and expended towards achieving your Domain Agendas.

Alan, I like to improve my assets to expand their use and rise their overall effeciency.

My body guards are my regents meat-shield and alas several times he has been left with only a battered "shield" thus it calls for improvements as I see it  :P

90% of you assets efficiency is the players ability to write interesting narratives for their use. If one simply rely on them to 'adjust the ECL' it's too little too late.

All things fair: a special and somewhat fleshed out aa makes it easier (for some?) to write interesting narratives.

I for one understand the urge to improve the "redshirts". The longer they last, the more flesh and bones between... oh lets say for example something like a couple of cloud giants, and my regent. :P

... Even if they only last longer in a purely descriptive sense.

On the domain level, I agree that AA's are just a little something, with no further need of upgrading.

But for adventuring and war, its more important.

You may disagree, and the ingame reality may be that Bjorn disregards them, but with the current rules that we know, increasing total participating ECL in an adventure works.

We have a DM Bjørn verdict on this.

The bodyguard follows the regent's level. No influence possible.

So, my entire bodyguard force was wiped out, is there a proceedure for getting a new set, or is it just essentially "automatic"

Since its, now, essentially a way to knock around your regent without wounding or killing him directly, I'd assume you can replace it.  :)

I can only assume that the procedure is automatic. After all there many worthy fighters looking forward to receive the honor of guarding the regent (unless of course you are in the habit of wiping out your groups of bodyguards with surprising frequency :) )

It's both automatic and influencable. Grants or decrees f.ex. can help speed up the process of restocking a decimated or destroyed bodyguard. Otherwise it replenishes itself slowly, but steadily.

Yea, and if you look at something like my bodyguard being mid level fighter/paladin/clerics with 3 on duty all of the time, in a rotation pool of 10, if i had to refill by Hire Help it would bankrupt my domain pretty quick.

Well that, or simply be impossible to refill.

Hire Help = Broken!

Yes but those fighters serve as your bodyguards, not as advisers, henchmen or the such kind. Somehow I think the requirements DDC wise are probably very different....
