Things are pretty much ready to roll.

I've notified our two other players that we'll be running things over here, so they will head over and become members and we'll...play!

Quick question: how big is this ship we are investigating, and is it Warp capable or just interplanetary (I'm guessing that Azrael ought to be able to tell)?

Raider-class voidship => could be an Imperial or Chaos ship ?

For a Magos or an Inquisitorial Savant, it should be easy to recognize the allegiance and the precise Class. ;)

Also sidenote, Oshgor is based on one of my former DH character:

Azral is 96% certain it is a little-known type of raider called a Chariot.

Raiders are the smallest type of escort. In size they approach the limit of what can be made warp-capable and battle-worthy. Ships of this size are more commonly found as system ships within the Imperium. Most raider class vessels are thus system ships belonging to various PDF forces. Warp-capable patterns are found in the hands of xenos, pirates or renegades. Some are warships from the keel up while others are converted freighters.

The Chariot-class is an STC-pattern vessel found raiding in some parts of Segmentum Obscurus, particularly in and around the Finial sector and surrounding areas. Records indicate a length of 450 meters (approximately). Few other details are known, except that i’s fast, carries a light battery complement and has negligible armour. It is an unusual design in that it's main hull is fairly flat and wide, unlike most Imperial vessels, providing it with a rudimentary lifting body and aerodynamic shape. The pattern's original purpose is not known, but during the Great Crusade some of these ships were used to land smaller titan patterns and heavy armour. Crew aestimate in the low thousands.

Template: Chariot-class raider

Seemed to be a pretty standard Imperial vessel in terms of markings and heraldry, but who can know for certain in these times?

Thanks Green Knight. It was the crew numbers I was particularly wondering about as a few thousand means none of our warbands are going to be able to take the ship individually, so we'll need to work together (as I'm sure you intended).

Yes.

Unless the ship was severely damaged in the crash (in which case it won't fly, so it's a moot point) OR was running with only a skeleton crew to begin with: Chances are slim for your band to take it on your own.

Ok, I hope that they will join us soon !

Green Knight wrote:"It would appear it is a Chariot-class vessel Sire. The Imperial Navy would classify it as a light raider-type ship, barely large enough to be warp-capable and useless in a pitched battle. The Chariot is primarily used in and around the Finial sector Sire. Mostly by rogue and renegade elements, but some hulls can be found in the hands of the wealthy - as personal pleasure craft, fast couriers, or priority transports. The pattern is unusual in appearance to say the least, but it is uncommonly well suited for planetary landings."

Nemus adds: "The makings are faint and inconclusive. Could be an Imperial craft - or not. So hard to tell these days."

Thx !

And what about the xenos fighters ?

Kage is setting up profiles form them manually once they send him an e-mail, so I'm hoping soonish.

The xenos fighters were sleek and predatory, with multiple asymmetrical wing-pylons surrounding a central combat pod. Just short of a hundred meters long and massing a few thousand tonnes tops. They did not conform to any known STC-pattern, not did they fit anything your savant has seen before.

Logic dictates they were carried here aboard a much larger craft, seeing as they cannot possibly be warp-capable.

Osh returns: "The ship was a mess Master. No survivors. Only this." He empties the contents of a makeshift bad upon the rockcrete floor. It looks like a massively over-sized head - about the size of the human thorax. The coloration is dark; shades of grey and dark greens. Six eyes, arranged in clusters of three. A wide fanged mouth, two vertical slits where a nose should have been. No hair or feathers, only rubbery skin with bone-like protrusions that form an irregular pattern.

That description has me thinking rather of the Protheans from Mass Effect.

If you want to you can easily see where the line goes. If you can't see it, ask. I'll explain in more detail.

Not sure if all Warbands are supposed to cooperate to take control of the ship  ???  :P

Every Champion starts with:

Resources: 0

Note that Resources aren't static - they have a tendency to become used up: Just like warband squads can be destroyed and ships shot to smithereens, resources can (and will) dwindle.

For now the only thing you need to know that Resources: 0 is only barely able to support a Warband: 2. You need to find some supplies (i.e. improve your Resources), particularly if you want to improve your warband.

Maegon and buddies (except the 5 scouts) will stay in the Hive and search for resources.
1) Food, ammo...
2) Observation point overlooking the crashed ship and its surroundings
3) Communication center
4) Anti-aircraft and/or long range artillery battery

=> I'll post IC about that  ;)
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B October 16, 2013, 12:38:17 PM
1) Always in short supply, but yes, setting squads to scavenge will help.
2) The crash site is a bout 60 klicks away from the hive, across horrible and dangerous terrain. If you climb at least 500 meters up your might be able to view the site on a clear day (or using techy gear). Provided there is a line of sight in the first place. To find out someone needs to climb a broken hive spire.

Thx ;)

Maegon's exploration groups will surely figure that, he'll decide later if a group or the whole Warband will go higher.

Also please correct me if I'm wrong => 7 factions for now ?

- (PC) Lexander Severus (SM Relictors)
- (PC) Gaius (Imperial Psyker / the Scourge)
- (PC) Azrael Kane (Magos / the Nar-ghosts)
- (PC) Maegon Solemnys (Inquisitor / Tzeentch)
- (PC) Nouri Un Nefer (Chaos Sorcerer / Tenebrous Cabal / Tzeentch)
- (GM) Xerxzes (Chariot-class vessel "The Sensibilious" / Slaanesh)
- (GM) Hrothgar (Wulfen)

I had, in my mind at least, stationed Azrael's band higher up in the hive, so Irena and the rest of the group might be able to watch the crash site from afar.

NP. Please describe IC. There is a caveat though; visibility is poor and there isn't a direct line of sight (or maybe there is, but then you need to go up up up - which will require a separate task).

Glad to meet you soon ;)
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord October 16, 2013, 06:07:08 PM
Added a little bit IC, decided they weren't quite far enough up, but that Irena could decide to send a couple of people a little higher of her own initiative.  They'll have some kind of binoculars or telescopic sight but not anything too fancy so if the visibility is low they won't get anything and will just come back down.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord October 16, 2013, 08:03:26 PM
Irena told them to stop climbing at sunrise as she didn't want them to get too far away.  If they can't see anything then, whether due to poor visibility or just not being high enough, they were to come back down.  The group were probably at about 300-400m so if it is necessary to climb to 5 or 6 km they probably won't get anything and will just come back down.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B October 16, 2013, 08:18:13 PM
Then you can just IC-narrate their return in the IC thread :)

If you want you can add something about spotting vague movements across the battlefield - other players moving east to investigate.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: LordPsycho October 16, 2013, 10:16:29 PM
Azrael and his team take shelter for the night in the burned out shell of an APC (it is impossible to tell which side it once belonged to).  Lukas is a bit closer to the ship, but some distance away from Azrael, approaching it from a different direction, and has taken shelter in a small tumbledown building with his team.

Derryck's news that there is another warband willing to cooperate on taking control of the ship, and led by a pair of Space Wolves no less, was welcome indeed.  Marines will no doubt be able to move faster than they had and might arrive at the ship at a similar time to themselves, Azrael hoped that his teams would arrive slightly beforehand though so that he could get a chance to assess the condition of the ship first.

Meanwhile Irena has been getting the rest of the warband ready to move out.  From their position several hundred metres up in one of the hive spires they could almost see the crash site during daylight, so she decided to send a couple of people a bit further up during the night to see if they could observe what was going on around the ship.  Visibility might well be too poor, and it would delay slightly their departure while they waiting for the observers to get back down, but if they could get some observations it might well be worthwhile.

Dragon Lord, I'm not sure to understand where each group of your Warband is, so please correct me if I'm wrong:
- Lukas's team => close to the ship
- Derrick's team => ?
- Azrael's team => outside the hive, moving toward the ship
- Irena's team => inside the hive, about 300-400m high

GM => Maegon's Warband is not far from the crashed xenos fighter => could you please give me an approximate height ?
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B October 16, 2013, 10:18:22 PM
He's got 1 team at the crash site (only it moved as two separate half-squads) which includes Azrael and Lukas. The rest of his warband is back at the hive; Irena aborted the claim and returned to the 'base'.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)

Not sure I quite understand the question; the physical height of the crashed fighter? Hard to tell. It's a complete mess. Imagine an oversized armoured 747 with multiple wings and pylons getting shot down and then crashing into a blasted cityscape. Not so many big pieces left.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)

Irena's team => inside the hive, about 300-400m high

GM => Maegon's Warband is not far from the crashed xenos fighter => could you please give me an approximate height ?

Sorry if it was not clear  ;D

=> the height corresponding to the position of my Warband in the Hive, Kasr Hemshin

(in the context, I was looking for a comparison with Irena's position in the Hive in height)

Sorry if anything was unclear.  Lukas and Azrael set out for the crash site via different routes with two companions each.  Irena and the bulk of the Nar-Ghosts stayed in position about 300-400m up one of the Hive spires (and later sent 2 men a little further up to see if they could get a better view).  Derryck went to seek out potential allies, contacted Hrothgar, and then returned to Irena.

Ok thx !

Last IC post amended =>

For now, Maegon and his retinue have reached a height of nearly four kilometers above the ground - nearly a quarter of the height of the highest spires of Kasr Hemshin.

Elevators do not work anymore, but some stairs are still accessible. Nevertheless, they must be careful. Two hours ago, one civilian tripped and fell into darkness screaming. Poor man...

"We continue to move higher. The low-hive suffered too much from years of fight to find something valuable here... Our best chance of finding intact resources and an operational communication center is toward the top, not down. "

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Relictors#Excommunication (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Relictors#Excommunication)

Excommunication

Continued conflict with the Inquisition during the 13th Black Crusade resulted in them being declared Excommunicate Traitoris and were all but destroyed by the Grey Knights under the command of Inquisitor Cyarro. Only a few hundred now remain, and it is suspected that these survivors have fled to the relative safety of the Eye of Terror.

It is currently unknown whether these survivors have thrown in their lot with the forces of Chaos or continue their struggle of trying to turn the dark powers against them for the good of humanity.

The Lector, ever silent, seems to ponder these news. He then turns to Roldar and:

"The two of us will collect the rest of your semi-squad and we will go investigate these newcomers to the site. I want to know what we might be up to and if they are indeed Imperial Guards extract from them the whereabouts of the accursed Grey Knights."

Oh-My-God-Emperor  :o

Lurk, I just realized to what extend the Relictors do not have a good opinion about the Inquisition.  ;D

Should be within the realm of possibility - and within your power.

T
he quest and usage of Chaos artefacts by the Relictors had been driven by a deeply ingrained consideration, that mere humans would have translated in their weak minds as fighting fire with fire.

The abundance of human and probably less human materials in the area led the Lector to consider them to further the achievement of his own most sacred missions. Conscious of the preciousness of lives of his loyal brethren from the last pure chapter of Imperial Marines not blinded and misguided by the Inquisition, the Lector sets out to gather around him human tools and thus create an expendable host.

Re-Lectors wool gathering exercise.

Let's see if some fools can be gathered around the Marines.

Bjorn - are you happy for some input from my end or do you wish to kick the ball there? I have some ideas in mind but thought I would ask first though.

As Maegon isn't from the Ordo Malleus (most closely associated with the Grey Knights) it might not be so bad, particularly as the group he was originally part of is not so dissimilar from the fight fire with fire philosophy of Severus's Relictors.

True !

I finally decided that Maegon belongs to the Ordo Hereticus.
Hunting heretics, finding books of forbidden knowledge, trying to use the Warp to gain more power (to fight enemies of the Imperium and gain personal power), trying to read the future, that kind of stuffs, you know...  ;)

The secret faction of the Ocularian sounded cool both in IC and OOC terms.

- Gaius => Psychics: 8 => Telepathy over 9000 / other powers ? (maybe it's a secret for now ;))
- Nouri => Psychics: 6 => Atmokinesis (psychoportation, electrokinesis, and telepathy) / Precognition

Nouri is very different from you two; he's got high faith and is trained as a chaos sorcerer, with all the trappings and mannerisms that entails. He's more of a fantasy-type spellcaster, whereas you two are more typical psi-types.

So, while Maegon and Azrael are finishing their chat, thoughts about the assault, by people who are not us, on the ship?

We could just keep observing and let them kill each other, leaving fewer defenders on the ship for us to deal with.  Or, my preferred sneaky, devious, route, we could let them kill each other for a while, then come to the rescue of the defenders.  That might get us in their good graces such that we don't even need to kill them.

Oh seems like I used Strikethrough in my original post  ::)

You push open the silver door and step into the gloom: And stare up at an Astartes in dead-grey power armour. In an instant you know what he is - for to those with the knowledge of such things there is no mistaking his powerful Aegis armour - a member of the fabled Grey Knights Chapter. He's holding a heavy rapid-fire stormbolter levelled at you. There is also a...presence behind you, it's dull and muted, but it's there.

"Step forward and identify. We have been monitoring your climb for some time now...Inquisitor."

Maegon bows with a knee on ground as a sign of respect, then walks toward the Astartes.
In theory, Inquisitors have the ability to command the Grey Knights. In practice, there is no way to pretend commanding the Elite of the Space Marines if you do not belong to the Ordo Malleus, have sufficient influence and have earned their respect on field.

"Inquisitor Maegon Solemnys, Ordo Hereticus. Born on Hive-world Macharia in 834.M41, Cadian Sector. It is a pleasure to see that your esteemed Chapter still does honor of its presence on Cadia. The Emperor's Tarot guided my steps up to this place, and to you. What is the purpose of our meeting ?"

Nice twist  ;D

I didn't expect that (but Maegon did, of course ;))

Squats are squat people!
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)

And do squats = dwarves?

Essentially, yes.  They were also retconned out of existence by GW some time ago as being a step too far in porting fantasy archetypes to space.  I don't miss them but some people object to their demise (bringing them up is often a good way to start arguments amongst 40k fans).
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B October 31, 2013, 12:01:37 AM
Squats are deeply misunderstood...

Puns aside; think of them as mutants - they are human, only somewhat shorter and of more rugged build. In some times and places they are fairly common, but mostly they are rare and bland enough not to be noticed by mainstream humanity (and in the Eye there are certainly more exotic creatures to worry about).

Do not that in Anathema things aren't necessarily what they appear to be. So maybe not put them into the 'dwarf' category.

@Dragon Lord: Yes, that is more like it. Having a few posts with quick exchanges of conversation is OK for added spice, but don't let it devolve to only that. If we do there is no longer a narrative, just very slow conversation.

There are exceptions. For example, if two or more players are online at the same time and feel like adding a little extra interaction by posting back and forth really quickly that's OK of course.

The situation is becoming pretty complicated and intense!

Between the ancient Space Marine and the now daemon-possessed Gaius, will you be able to take control of the ship?

And even if you do, will there be anything left of the ship once the Ner'gal are done?

And what of repairs, spare parts and replacement crew?

And the Grey Knights!

Looks like it will be a while before this bird flies again - if ever :D

There are a few plus points as well:

You got the daemon out of the core without ruining it!

(will you manage the same without ruining Gaius???)

Maybe the Grey Knights can deal with it, without killing everyone in the process? It's a long shot, but you gotta keep faith!

And if you get rid of Xerxzes it definitely beats being bullied around by an obnoxious know-it-all :P

"Usher, I need to contact the Inquisitor immediately, you may come with me if you wish, but I need your vox unit at once!"
As the rest of the warband went to ground and out of sight, Azrael took Sam higher up into one of the ruins, it was out of sight from above, but vulnerable if a stray shot came their way.  It was necessary though if he was to maintain a strong vox link to Maegon.
Looking at the sky with a worried look, Usher and his four men run after Azrael and Sam. The fighters are still high, but this is a question of minutes before they attack...

"Understood ! Interrogator, please ask Inquisitor Solemnys to reach the communicator ! Magos Kane takes the vox unit."
"Magos Kane, the stakes for the voidship are only getting higher and a struggle is taking place on-board as we speak. We will now pick-up your offer to let us in through a hatch in the hull. Nouri and the cabal work quickly, but time is growing short and they haven't marshaled enough might yet.  From the corner of his eyes, he  sees one of the Squats taking cover and the whispers of the Void give give rise to a plan.

"Noble Squats, your honored ancestor has need of your prayers! Lift your voice in praise to the Honored Ancestor!"  From the mind of a squat, he quickly plucks a prayer in which he leads them and from his humble beginning, a chorus of murmured quickly emerges.  Nouri shifts from the Squats to the Cabal and with a nod they begin working their unwittingly acolytes into the greater working.  And with the addition of true faith, much stands to be done, but Nouri seemingly only gathers the growing storm the the weight of which he toils, while some of the Thralls and Squats are broken.

Yet, at the fringes of his awareness, he can feel the judgemental eyes of the Grey Knights probing.

OOC: Good plan Alan, but let's postpone this one until the other actors have had a chance to act; you already did the provide-the-daemon-with-weapons thing. Let it play out first. Then the squats can fight Xerxzes followers.

Waiting for Lexander to decide what to do; he's down to five marines, his librarian and himself.

Gaius is, obviously, not quite in control of himself anymore.

Nouri has crash-enchanted two chainswords that might do the trick against Xerxes. Daemon-Gaius also has a force sword.

Azrael still has a few tricks up his sleeve yet (aside from there being over 100 of us outside the ship waiting to join the fray)

Movements wise, most of the Nar-Ghosts, plus whatever recruits they may have gathered in the ruins (I'll let Bjorn decide how many) will enter the ship with Derryck and Roldar, Lukas and 5 snipers will remain outside the ship to watch for potential Xenos attackers and Irena will stay with the injured marine until the ships medicae facility is secured and they can move him in.

Indeed, Maegon is calling enemies of the Emperor's Children (Ultramarines, Dark Angels, World Eaters... same result) so they can nuke the ship  ;D

EDIT: even with that, the daemon should be able to create a sphere of protection and survive with his new body / puppets

Semi-OOC: Taking control of the command deck (aka. the bridge) is one way of controlling the turrets. The other option is to physically locate each turret and operate them locally. The latter option is probably out of reach due to a lack of manpower. Remember that while this is a small ship it's vastly larger than any supercarrier ever built. So there are a lot of rooms and corridors and whatnot. Plus there are still a thousand or so crew...so do not make the mistake of imagine this ship as 'small' in the absolute sense.
I had been taking the size into account and assuming that it would have a separate fire-control centre, if not (or if you think it would be implausible for the Nar-Ghosts to capture) then they'll go for a single turret near the prow, Azrael isn't stupid enough to try and take the bridge, though I do have other ideas we'll get onto later, a Magos inside what is basically a giant machine is a dangerous thing 8)
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)

OOC: Perhaps I missed something, but I cannot find out how many troops are going in with Derryck. Please clarify (or point me in the right direction).

I realised I ought to probably clarify the distribution of the Nar-Ghosts.

My original plan was this:
Lukas plus 5 snipers are aiding Hrothgar in the external defence against the Xenos (there are also of course all the booby traps we laid earlier).  With Azrael is only Sam the servitor (plus Corporal Usher and his men).  Irena has stayed with the injured Relictor with one assistant.  That leaves everyone else with Derryck, which current numbers puts at 40 plus whatever recruits they may have gathered in the ruins (probably not many as their scrounging was cut short by the Xenos).

Having started putting together my narrative of their actions inside the ship however I'm not sure whether Derryck really needs over 40 people (and whether it is even advisable as smaller groups attract less attention).  If I decide that is the case I'll either have Derryck's group split to two different objectives or have it so that some of them remained outside with Irena and were collected by Azrael when he entered the ship.  Either way everyone excepting Lukas and his snipers, and Irena and her assistant, will be going into the ship.  There isn't much the other Nar-Ghosts can do against the Xenos as they lack heavy weapons.  Lukas' snipers have a chance of picking out the weak joints in the legs, but otherwise the rest of them are better off going after the ships weapons.  I'm presuming that Usher and his men will be going with Azrael into the ship, leaving their injured colleague with Irena.

: DM B November 09, 2013, 09:45:18 PM
General observation:

Don't forget to use your powers of narration! But don't overdo it either :)

Maegon is doing it right ATM. He tries to bring in some loyalist reinforcements to help with the xenos - I hasten to add that I initially planned for only one xenos fighter to attack again - so you can blame him for the other two ;) If the GM thinks that this is too far-fetched I might rule it was a waking dream or enemy disinformation. On the other hand I might think its cool and have an entire company of Ravenwing appear! Or maybe just a one sergeant and a few other astartes, plus some other survivors (effectively a warband!).

If Nouri wants to be away; narrate him awake. I haven specifically ruled him out cold. And even if I did he could wake up! On the other hand you might want him to stay down. Point is: Use your narrative powers Alan!

Some with Azrael. Put four squads into the ship and narrate...tell the tale of how they manage to locate the command centre...but leave some leeway for me to embellish if I think the level of the opposition is too weak (for example).

Feel free to re-take some control! The Lector is now...not exactly possessed...but rather infused with the power of the Warp. More specifically the power of the same daemon that you're facing. So in addition to super-marine strength Lexander is bound to feel quite loyal to the Gaius-daemon.

: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord November 13, 2013, 05:35:03 PM
(not 100% sure who's with Azrael or the other teams ATM, please list OOC in next post)
With Azrael is Sam the servitor and the Necromundan spiders Usher, Habem and Tonk.

Derryck originally had a group of 45 (including himself), 3 were sent back to Irena (where they will be by now), that takes them down to 42.  The group then divided into two teams, might as well be evenly for simplicity so 21 in each team.  Derryck lost one man taking the turret so Derryck's team is 20 total, Yelena's is 21.

Outside Lukas has 5 snipers with him and Irena now has the injured Relictor, Roman the Necromundan with the injured ankle, Jonas and Theo with serious and minor injuries respectively, and two other un-injured Nar-Ghosts.

As far as Maegon can tell the communicator is picking up an encrypted identification signal. Unfortunately it cannot process it properly because of the missing encryption/decryption module. Could it real loyalist marines out there, trying to verify your identity? Where are all the tech-priests when you really need them. Damnation!
Incidentally, the Dark Angels don't exactly have the best history with the Inquisition.  Having them in the same place as Grey Knights could be interesting.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: HBoT/JA (Viktor) November 14, 2013, 08:09:23 AM
I don't think there is a known animosity between the Grey Knights and the Dark Angels. At least not at the scale of the animosity between the Space Wolves and Grey Knights after Armageddon I.

I believe it is one-way, i.e. the inquisition not trusting the Dark Angels or the Unforgiven in general. Probably rightly so if you read the lore about Caliban / Luther / Fallen etc.

And you do have an Inquisitor in your party!
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord November 14, 2013, 10:00:09 AM
There isn't any specific animosity between the Dark Angels and the Grey Knights.  The Dark Angels would in fact generally get on less well the Ordo Hereticus (i.e. Maegon ::)), but if there is one of the Fallen in the area they aren't going to be happy about any Inquisitorial agents being around.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B November 14, 2013, 11:14:47 AM
It is also best not to assume anything about stuff your characters wouldn't know anything about...in Anathema things aren't always what you expect them to be.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord November 14, 2013, 12:47:03 PM
Fair enough, I know Azrael wouldn't have any idea about the lack of trust between the Dark Angels and the Inquisition.  Maegon might do though.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: LordPsycho November 14, 2013, 01:19:29 PM
lack of trust between the Dark Angels and the Inquisition

Interesting point  ;)

According to the fluff, nobody outside of the DA Legion knows that "The Great Betrayal" occurred and that "The Fallen" exist. Within the Chapters itself, only the Deathwing and senior officers know these secrets. The Chapter leadership will go to great lengths to ensure that this knowledge does not reach the Imperium at large, even at times going so far as to disobey direct orders from Inquisitors and cause overly curious individuals to "disappear".

However, on several occasions the behavior of Dark Angels raised suspicion. These events were rare and in my humble opinion, the number of people aware of them is very low.
Probably not the full Inquisition.
Not the Grey Knights.
Not Maegon.

Thoughts ?

I think your take on it is reasonable LordPsycho.  Certainly no-one outside the Inner Circle of the Unforgiven chapters knows about the Great Betrayal and the hunt for the Fallen.  I think the general lack of co-operation between the Dark Angels and the Inquisition spreads a little further, but then they are hardly the only one of the older chapters to hold themselves aloof of Imperial politics.

Maegon certainly wouldn't have any idea about the Dark Angels true darker side (as he wouldn't be alive if he did ;)).  However he might well be aware that the Dark Angels are rather secretive and don't exactly have a history of co-operation with the Inquisition.

The disappearance of Inquisitors who put their noses where they aren't wanted would similarly always have been done in such a way that nothing could be definitively tied back to the Dark Angels/Unforgiven.  It is not implausible that there might be suspicions that they somehow had an involvement, but no-one could prove anything.  Rather like how skilled politicians always seem to manage to come out clean after things hit the fan.

Been out of UK until today, and will rest for the weekend before heading out again on Monday. Things should quieten down only in the weekend of 20 December and afterwards.

Will try to catch-up over the weekend, before sinking again for another two weeks.

Can't wait for the holidays and the resumption of a more normal life.

If you need something urgent out of me, feel free to kick the dead horse (greyborea [can be found at the usual gmail address]  :D

Xerxzes/the Daemon has left the ship, leaving Lexander nominally in charge. The Ner'gal xenos have been defeated. For now at least. There may be more. Now all that is left is to fix the ship and get away from this accursed world!

Please note that if you don't post you cannot expect me to focus on YOUR character. I'll focus on those PCs that help move the story forward.

Happy New Year !

Still here and ready to move forward.

How long for Maegon and buddies to leave the spire and reach the ship ?
(at least half a day or one full day, cf first IC posts at the beginning of the game ?)

Do you expect us to board the ship then move to another planet, so that "Prologue" will end and "Chapter 1" will begin ?  :D

Good!

You are free to move the story forward. Just make sure there is leeway for the other players to add stuff that took place during the day (your group isn't particularly quick, so a full day is needed) Maegon needs to reach the ship.

Correct. The Prologue ends when you get off Cadia! You only need to find parts, fix the ship and get moving. While avoiding the Grey Knights and any more xenos attacks. Plus any player-created shenanigans. Should be easy :P

Incidentally the adventure assumed you'd find a more peaceful way to get aboard the ship, leaving the daemon to cause trouble later and Xerxzes as a source of information. But I guess it just shows that no adventures survive contact with players. Even short, simple, prologue-type adventures :)

So that means we're down to 2 players ATM.

That's kind of annoying, but I'm going to have rather limited time myself the next few weeks as I'm moving across the Atlantic to the US, so I don't mind waiting a while to see if the others re-appear.

I am folding the Marines' tent, as things ini the office have taken a turn for the worse. Our founder has decided to sack c.10% of the work force to remotivate troops. I am part of the remotivated ones, needless to say that the motivation is to last long enough here to land another job elsewhere.

I will therefore revert to lurking for at least the next few weeks.

Thank you for this, it has been really fun  ;D
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B January 29, 2014, 09:19:28 AM
We'll continue with just Azrael and Maegon then. Once the prelude is done I'll try and recruit a few more players.

Gaius/Nouri/Lexander doesn't just vanish, but they'll take on less prominent roles. Nouri has already disappeared into the bowels of the ship. Gaius has also withdrawn to rejoin his host. And Lexander's warband are now in control of some of the key sections of the ship (for as long as that lasts). Hrothgar and the Ravenwing are also a factor. Plus any other bands hiding in the hills (none named as of yet).
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord January 30, 2014, 11:23:25 AM
The ship will be needing additional crew so is the end of the prelude would definitely be an opportunity for some new warbands to come in.

As I'm flying out to my new job in the States on Saturday Azrael is going to be quiet for another week or so, but once I'm settled he'll be back up and running.  In the meantime he is inspecting the damage the ship has taken and setting up repairs (while generally avoiding Lexander as he feels something odd is going on there).

Ok I just reread Azrael / Hrothgar / Lexander / Maegon's stats.

The Lector helped by the Daemon is a terrible opponent, but we may combine Azrael's tech, Maegon's tricks and Hrothgar's ferocity.

However, the equation also includes:
- Gaius
- Tenebrous Cabal
- Dark Angels
- Grey Knights

Thoughts ?
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B March 23, 2014, 12:34:06 PM
Gaius has turned NPC - but he and his warband are camped outside the ship.
The Tenebrous Cabal has also turned NPC - they are currently finding a place amongst the other occupants of the ship
Dark Angels - Also outside, currently has a positive disposition towards Maegon
Grey Knights - Not seen since their attack on the Cabal

Busy with IRL + other games on DR forums.

I suggest we wrap up the prelude, then discuss how to proceed. We need more post - and presumably a few more players - if this is going to work.

I'd like to:
1) have the discussion between Maegon and Azrael
2) then do some stuffs inside the ship, like trying to kill Lexander.

Part 2) may be accelerated thanks to GM-Magic if needed.

Anyway, we need more players !

Thoughts ?

Yeah, with just the two players we've really just lost the momentum.

I'd like to:
1) have the discussion between Maegon and Azrael
2) then do some stuffs inside the ship, like trying to kill Lexander.

Indeed.  I'm not sure we have to kill Lexander, indeed if we just want to insert a couple of events before the lift-off we may not have time.

My suggestion is to insert some discussion between Azrael, Maegon, Hrothgar and Kremiel before the take-off, and that perhaps the imminent detonation of the hive means they need to postpone whatever plans they might have for confronting Lexander until after take-off.  Having a daemonically possessed space marine lurking around on the ship might make things more interesting anyway!
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: DM B April 16, 2014, 09:14:55 AM
We can easily postpone the take-off for a bit so you have a chance for discussing what you want to do. There will also be time for discussions and actions after take-off; you're looking at a long trek through the void, followed by a warp journey...

More players: I'd say we need a minimum of one more players, but two would be better. Max three extra.

Make your champion/host and post it in a new thread.
Read the IC thread (you're on Cadia, desperately trying to get passage on a ship and get away from it all)

Rhein and Darkking => very cool hosts  :D

Maegon => Cunning: 6 / Subterfuge: 3 / Psychics: 4 => Asea Eranion => full restoration of health and mana + mana boost => All-in  ;D

The Inquisitor will go to the entry door of the command bridge with his retinue, including Nemus, Oshgor, Jethro, THX-138 and the Manticores.
(the Necromundan Spiders will stay outside and help the civilians to board the ship)

Dark Angels and Space Wolves are welcome too, especially Hrothgar.
Kremiel can stay out of the fight if he prefers.

Dragon Lord => what about Azrael and his warband ?

Azrael and his warband will be defending the ship/getting us ready to depart, they won't be much help against a daemon-fuelled space marine, though you could probably have Sam if you want.  The Spiders are welcome to co-ordinate with Azrael.

Regarding the Asea Eranion, my thought is that it contains something warp tainted, or the blood of the innocent, or something equally unsavoury and when Maegon is unconscious afterwards his mind will be drifting on the warp.  If he survives he comes back stronger, but if he dies his body will likely be possessed by a warp entity.  Let me know whether that seems good or not.

The scourge is deployed on the outer perimeter, but they are letting people pass through (although they've been levying a 'toll' on some of the bands).
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Rhein May 15, 2014, 11:31:31 PM
The Carbideblest Newborn will slow down and dismount to form a defensive circle when they reach the vicinity of other band - but keep moving onto the main entrance of the ship. While it is still unknown if the vehicles will even fit inside the voidship, if it's possible it will has to be through it. There will be no open hostility, but they are clearly flexing their muscles and barking around while trying to keep a close eye on their surroundings - especially for heavy weapons and the ship's batteries. Rhein is aiming to move up and speak to the guards of the entrance - Hrothgars group.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord May 16, 2014, 05:14:48 AM
Azrael is moving to start training the ships guns on any warbands who look like they are going to cause trouble, and are guarding some of the smaller entrances that Hrothgar's band isn't.  The ship is still down on crew, so they will be somewhat allowing towards people who look like they can be of use and not start trouble.  I haven't entirely decided what Azrael's attitude toward the presence of another Mechanicum adept will be, on the one hand he hasn't seen anyone from the Mechanicus for a long time, on the other he might be wary of potential threats to his position.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Rhein May 16, 2014, 07:01:08 AM
Don't forget - there are actually quiet a couple of mechadendrites to be spotted, amongst his retinue and even his bodyguard (low tech-adepts from the Carbideclad Claw that joined his escape). Albeit modified for the use of weapons, there was no reason to undo their Mechanicus/Heretek modifications.

Ok Sergeant Usher and the Spiders help boarding the civilians / co-ordinate with Azrael.

No need for Sam, thx ;)

Ok let's say that during backlash and coma, Maegon's mind is extremely weakened and vulnerable to demonic possession. But his body is weak too, so the warp entity has to wait until he recovers.
Either he wakes up or dies... the entity will choose that moment to try to take control of his body.
Nemus is aware of that and will watch over him carefully.

But I wonder how Azrael is aware of that too ?  ???  ;D

Asea Eranion is powerful indeed, while under its effects the Inquisitor would be a match for Kremiel or Hrothgar (and perhaps even Lexander), but Maegon is not understating the side-effects that will come later.  If Maegon were to die of the side-effects, it will not be a pleasant death, either for the Inquisitor or anyone else in the vicinity.  Many other Inquisitors would likely execute him after the battle to avoid that possibility, if they even allowed him to take the substance in the first place.  Azrael has no real concerns about the provenance of the substance, and he doubts Hrothgar does either, though the Dark Angel might, but special precautions will have to be taken with the Inquisitor's unconscious form afterwards.  Hopefully the Interrogator knows the correct procedures.

Great  :D

Sounds good to me.

If we are going to have two techpriests we could probably do with defining their particular spheres of expertise a little better.  Obviously Azrael has sufficient knowledge of spacecraft to have repaired the voidship, but he is also established as being a pretty decent medic and good with bionics, as well as being able to handle himself fighting in cyberspace.

We could go with one of them having broad but shallower knowledge and the other deeper knowledge of a smaller set of disciplines.  In that case it would probably work best with Azrael being the broad but shallower one and Rhein the narrower and deeper.  This would kind of make sense with Rhein's tech of 6 versus Azrael's tech of 5 as well as Azrael's high cunning and time with the Explorators.

Alternatively they could both have a broad range of relatively basic stuff and deeper knowledge of a couple of specific fields.  In that case if Rhein wanted a more traditional vehicle/steampunk mad scientist kind of route I would be happy shifting Azrael toward psy-tech and the biologis.  On the other hand Rhein seems like an unusually flesh loving adept, so maybe he would rather take the biologis leaning.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Rhein May 19, 2014, 11:14:22 AM
Rhein was only a lower Lexmechanicus before he left the Adeptus Mechanicus - with that, he has only basic knowledge how to deal with the cyberspace and, obviously, AdMech rites. Most of his knowledge was gathered as his life as outcast - and thus, yes, I thought him having a much narrower but deeper set of disciplines. His main expertise are weapons, warmachines and tools of destruction. He has quiet a knowledge about coding and little about bionics, too - but more of the crude and functional kind (and usually that's more than enough, because he's implanting weapons of all sorts). Yes, he's pretty flesh-loving... and not very in line with the AdMech discipline of giving up emotions and feelings. But I have absolutely nothing against letting Azrael handle the biologis-field.. and Rhein seeking his council. That's just making things much more interesting.

Does this work with you?

This is true, but if they are going to be enemies it helps to know where the conflicts will arise too ;)

Does this work with you?

That works for me.  We'll go with Azrael having a broader knowledge base and Rhein having a much deeper knowledge of weaponry and warmachines.  Psy-tech and the biologis are particular hobbies for Azrael, though his clearance level was never high enough to access most psy-tech data, and as such most of his knowledge of psy-tech was gathered through somewhat dubious means (so there won't be too many instances like him knowing what Asea Eranion is).

In terms of maintaining the ship Rhein will be better with maintaining the weapons and possibly things like the power systems, while Azrael will be better with things like life support and interfacing with the ship.  Should they end up enemies that could make for interesting results :)

I have some ideas for the next step.  I think to control the ship and take off Azrael will have to link into all of the ships systems, including engineering.  Though the daemon is no longer there, he will inevitably be infected by some of the corruption, starting his true fall to Chaos.

So sad...sacrificing his soul to save the others :'( :D

[OOC: Not sure if Kremiel is on the bridge, if not I'll remove him.]
OOC: The Dark Angels are not present on the bridge during the assault.

That ;)

=> they just joined the deck to secure the Artifacts

Well, now you got your pay check for bringing this lunatics in :(

How many are they? A squad? More?
A handful of attack bikes and a landspeeder?

Two squads, but with some losses. And yes, a landspeeder and a handful of bikes.

Sorry team I didn't receive the last notifications...

I have to ask for a small recon  ::)

"Furthermore, by the will of the Inquisitor, I take command of this vessel and all those aboard it."

=> In view of the above, Kremiel and at least two other Dark Angels will always stay on the bridge.

His right arm, let's call him "Nodaï", will head off to ensure the warp-tainted bodies were secured until they could be thrown into the superheated plasma.

Another pair of Dark Angels arrived to assist Kremiel with the corpses of Lexander and Hrothgar.  Though it was probably not necessary, as Kremiel turned to follow the other two off the bridge Azrael added, with genuine weariness in his tone, "If you could find whoever caused that blast before they destroy the ship it would make things easier."

Kremiel Nodaï nodded and headed off to ensure the warp-tainted bodies were secured until they could be thrown into the superheated plasma.

"Who you are, and what your affiliations are, is of no real concern to me," he paused, and then raised an eyebrow at Rhein's followers, "though I imagine that one of the Dark Angels will be back shortly and I'm afraid you may find they have a rather less magnanimous outlook."

Very good point.  Also since Maegon and most of your warband are out of action for the time being, I think you taking control of Kremiel is a good idea.

I'll make some minor adjustments to my first post with Azrael on the bridge, and then Rhein and I should probably do some significant changes to our last posts.  Neither Rhein or Azrael would probably act in quite the same way with the Dark Angels still on the bridge.

Yepp.

Rhein wouldn't behave like that with Space Marines around - looking like corpse-loving ones just so much more. He would shit his pants for the time being, as long as it isn't clear if they ain't gonna shoot him right on the spot, playing along and leaving Techie-affairs Techie-affairs for the time being.

I discussed about that with GM, but I'm sorry I didn't have time to explain it to you guys properly OOC  :-[  ;D

Maybe Azrael could leave the bridge for a few minutes to welcome Rhein somewhere else ?
Then they both come back as AdMechs Adepts to repair the bridge equipments in order to make the ship take off ?
The Dark Angels will be nice with them, at least during the repairs. ;)

Well, if the encounter happens right in front of the bridge.. we don't have to change too much. Would at least be an excuse for laziness.  ;D

Simple enough to arrange.  I can find a reason to have Azrael step off the bridge for a moment for a quiet word with Irena before she heads down to the infirmary, and Rhein can appear before he goes back in.
: Re: Anathema: General discussion (OOC)
: Dragon Lord June 07, 2014, 10:37:37 PM
I've adjusted things a little, so Rhein should now meet Azrael outside the bridge, just after Irena has left.

Ok great, let's move forward !

Maegon will stay comatose for several weeks...
Nemus needs surgical treatment, please feel free to "improve" his legs and whole body (Rhein ?).
Jethro is not dead (see my IC post of the battle).

I have 2 IC posts in mind:
- in the corridors => battle between Irena, her escort and Brother Asteus transporting Maegon and Nemus to the apothecarium VS Relictor scouts
- outside the ship => battle between Jack Moor's warband VS leftovers of the Space Wolves ?

Please also note that I'll be AFK from June 15 to 22 (holidays)
